Hey everybody,

I'm about to get internet soon and I'd like to know any games that could be played online without the use of steam.

I have already tried Heroes of Newerth and CSS all suggestions would be Helpful.

The internet speed I will be getting: Is a DSL Land- Line, the speed is 1 Mbps for 2 gb then 512 Kbps Unlimitied. This costs 525 Inr which is approx, 9-10$ a month.

My PC specs: AMD FX 6300, Radeon HD 7770, ASUS m5 a 97r2.0, corsair vs 550 watt. 1 TB HDD SEAGATE.

I'd like a maximum amount of suggestions for the games please.

I used to be a holdout like you... until I took a Steam Winter Sale to the wallet.

Most games rely on a gaming platform because that is their method of distribution. MMORPGs are more or less required to have their own distribution client so they are available outside of Steam, Origin, etc. but they are an exception.

If you really want to avoid Steam use an online store that offers direct download instead of a dedicated client. I used GOG.com long before I went to Steam and Humble Bundle just opened a dedicated store.

You should check out some of the games on Origin, they have a bunch of quality games but Origin doesn't make you do huge mandatory updates on games 24/7 like Steam and it's never glitched out before *cough steam.* I actually like Steam overall since it's a pretty good game server and it's helped bring PC gaming back into the scene with consoles. I have Crysis 3 and Dragon Age Origins currently installed and I use them through Origin. I think Cryis 3 had a 256 Mb update but that's really small and whenever there's an update for Origin it'll ask you if you want to download it. Origin provides a bunch of cool games, some of my favorites would be: Battlefield 4, Battlefield 3, Crysis 3, and Mass Effect 1, 2, and 3.

It's probably pretty good, just steam already demolishes them, for EA only for origin games, and overpriced.
Steam is the main gaming platform and everyone knows it, noone would be sad is steam published bf4, guaranteed.

Actually, at least one would be sad, me. You know, both Steam and Origin are good game game clients but I'm glad that they both have their separate games, that way I can spend all my time arguing about which one is better with genteel gamers. LOL Anyway, 4cloud was asking for any non-steam games so I advised using origin since:

1) They don't have downloads very often, and if they do, you'll either be asked if you want to download the update or it'll be a very small update. I did this because 4cloud has a somewhat slow internet and he/she would have to wait a long, very long time for some of the updates of the games that the developers provide on steam.

2) Origin is probably the second biggest game client for PC's and he/she would have an array of options to choose from without the hassle of long updates, at least from my experience. If 4cloud had faster internet, then sure, I would have advised Steam over Origin but alas, "the speed is 1 Mbps for 2 gb then 512 Kbps Unlimitied."

Please people no arguing, however thanks for all yoursuggestions. I'll have a look at Origin since one of my friends have it too and yes its true he says its not as good as steam but its not bad either.

But are there any more suggestions for online gaming without the use of any gaming platform services such as: Steam, Origin, greenman gaming, impulse etc...

Not sure what 4cloud is, but steam doesnt make you download game updates if you really dont want to, but I dont see why you wouldnt want to, and steam servers im sure are as fast as origin.

Yeah, sorry about the arguing lol. Back to business, it's really tough to find PC games now days that don't involve the use of a game client like Steam or Origin. About a month ago I didn't have unlimited internet so I was always trying to find game that didn't have Steam listed on the back of it because I knew how big and often the updates were. There are a few select titles I have in mind though that still go the old school route, what kind of games are you interested in? If you tell me that I may be able to help a bit more.

I agree with lilcinw, except that holdout part lol. You can always download games from an online store. Although I bought and downloaded Dragon Age: Origins this week, I think it was this week, from Amazon but I still had to activate it through Origin since it was an EA game. I'm not much of an authority when it comes to buying digital games from online stores like GOG.com and Amazon because I only recently acquired unlimited internet.
