This site doesn't have a security section so as I'm on Win7 I've put this here.

I've just heard on the news that Microsoft have just found a security hole in their IE system, that has been breached by hackers, and they are in the process of trying to find a solution. I don't understand all this computer stuff but the weirdo, geek guy on TV seemed to say you have to proactively find the MS solution or something yourself as it won't come via the usual downloads. Has anyone heard about this and understands what needs to be done etc, because I don't??????

One thing the geek said was that if you go to a site that has been hacked and compromised then the hackers programme goes into your computer and they have control of Administration which, I gather, controls everything.

MS did not find it. I would not be going to a lot of websites that you don't need to be at. I trust your computer is fully backed up!

Vulnerability in Internet Explorer Could Allow Remote Code Execution
They don't have a fix yet. But it will either be pushed out as part of their regular updates, or maybe a special one just for this.

And it doesn't run as Administrator, unless you are running as Administrator (which you really, really shouldn't)
"The vulnerability may corrupt memory in a way that could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code in the context of the current user "

You can always install a different browser temporarily until IE is fixed. Try one of these: firefox, chrome, safari, or opera.

I don't know what Administrator is. I was only repeating what the geek on the TV said. I have no idea what I'm on. When I got my computer I just booted it up by putting it on and pretty much left it to buzz away.

I have Chrome but I've never used it as I don't like having to learn and deal with new and unfamiliar stuff. It's just too much hassle having to do this. Perhaps I should try until they fix IE.
