Anyone familiar with Ivy Bridge Architecture?

I heard a rumor that the IVy Bridges have heat issues compared to Sandy and Haswell. Not sure if it's just a rumor, but I've been trying to OC my 3570k and can't do it with a 212 EVO, yet I see others getting high OC with that same heatsink on sandy. Even at stock, I'm maxing out at 65C. AS5 and redoing the paste hasn't helped.

a) You didn't list the FREQUENCY you maxed out so it's hard to say if your results are typical.

b) The Motherboard makes a big difference.

I have an i7-3770K and overclocked to 4.2GHz by just changing the core Multiplier to "42" for each core. That's the highest I can do and still keep the Intel Power Management so it runs cool/quiet. No change to the Voltage or anything else.

For gaming, there's little benefit to overclock any higher as the bottleneck is usually with the graphics card for most people.

c) 4.6GHz is fairly common as a max overclock for the i5-4670K (some higher) but I see no reason to push things to the limit.

65c really isn't the end of the world, what is your overclock at? 4.2ghz?

I stress tested mine at 4.2ghz with Intel Extreme Tuner and it only got to 52-53 maybe 54c at the very most, it's been months.(I forgot, I wanna say 52c though) Guess I got a good chip. That's with a lowly Hyper 212 EVO with two black Cougar Vortex Static Pressure fans in push-pull though.

Anybody else notice how all the ragging on Ivy Bridge disappeared after people found out how hot Haswell gets in comparison? lol

as mentioned above, Ivy is GENERALLY easier to o/c and slightly lower temps than Haswell and Sandy (due to soldered IHS) is slightly easier/cooler than Ivy. But then Ivy has better IPS than Sandy and Haswell better IPS than Ivy, so it balances out.

I o/c my 3570k to 4.2GHz without increasing the voltage and 4.4GHz at 1.14v. It would hit 4.8GHz at 1.28v but it was unnecessary and got a bit too warm. all with a evo 212 cooler

Stock. I said it was stock. Either I got really unlucky with my CPU this time, or my heatsink has issues. There's no way I should hit 65C at stock with an EVO.
