Repairing windows 7 installation

Have a 640 gig wd hdd that wont boot,need to re and re windows 7.Cant boot from the original win 7 disk?do i need a windows 7 start disk?

Get the link for the version of Windows 7 you are using. Burn the ISO to DVD and then use that DVD to boot the system. Follow the repair prompts.

Still getting the hang of the forums
Thanks for your quick response,will try tonight,have to get the win 7 version from the serial no. Sticker on the back of this hp touchsmart.

The HP would have come with an OEM version of windows that you would need to get from HP if you didnt make your restore disks and the recovery partition is not working. You normally can reinstall directly from the harddrive in the HP by pressing f11 or f12 during startup and going into their recovery manager. Theres a video and instructions here:

It is the first time that you use this WD hard drive on this computer? Have you tried to update a compatible driver for this drive?
