Hey everyone, I am looking for some help on upgrading my current cpu and maybe motherboard. Currently I have a Asus P8B75 with a i5-2500K.

I am wanting to upgrade for upcoming games, and my resolution of choice is 1920x1080.

The issue is I have no idea what to get. I have no idea what is actually better than the 2500k and would actually be a meaningful upgrade.

you can keep your mobo and cpu, they will run games just fine, and if they start to slow you down then a small overclock will speed it right back up :p what you really need to look at is a graphics card. what is your current rig, and your upgrade budget?

That CPU is still Very up to date.
AFAIK there is no video card to date that can bottleneck it.
The newest fastest I5 is only a little faster, and requires a new board.
What video card and power supply do you have now?
That is what you would update.

You could upgrade to an I7, but that won't help games much.

Potential Upgrades:

1) Video Card - depending on your current card - review Tom's Charts and find something of better performance at a cost you can handle. This should address your concern.

2) Memory - depending on how much you have and your OS. If you are running a 64 Bit OS (very likely) then you may want to go up to 16 Meg. This may address performance - but does not impact video resolution.

3) SSD - Something allong the lines of 120GB or more. Use this as your boot drive and game drive - you won't be sorry.

4) Power Supply. Depending on what you have, a reliable tier 1 is always a good thing to have. This won't impact your performance, but a good reliable source of power will help during the stressful times.

Good Luck.

Budget isn't a huge concern. I can go up to $600 but as always best bang for my buck is ideal.

I could go more, but if I am now looking,at just a gpu and maybe ram $600 should be more than enough.

I would go with an R9 290 and a nice SSD. Anything more is overkill for 1080p, with the R9 290 being borderline overkill.
