I wish to thank all who replied to my previous thread concerning my Lacie Rugged XL Thunderbolt 3.0 1TB hard drive. I have secured a suitable cable.

I now find that the lacie drive suddenly stops working. Windows tells me that this drive is not recognized. Sometimes this occurs on boot up; sometimes, like today, it works normally, then stops with the afore-mentioned message. It appears that the driver has "driven away".:(

My desktop is an HP Pavilion a4310f, Win 7, Athlon II x2 250 processor, 3.00GHz, 4GB RAM, 64 bit, USB 2.0. I realize that this desktop is now obsolete, but it is all I have to work with.

I have changed USB ports to no avail. Still get "device not recognized". :??:

Any input would be appreciated. :)

Test it with SeaTools for Windows as it may have failed: http://www.seagate.com/gb/en/support/downloads/item/seatools-win-master/

If SeaTools can't detect it either, remove the actual hard drive from the LaCie enclosure and buy a third-party enclosure for it, it may well work properly just by switching enclosures if there is a fault with the LaCie one (the bridge-chip PCB is a common fail point).

The fact that this problem is intermittent makes it more difficult to diagnose. Sometimes it functions normally initially, then fails next time i access it.
I will download/run the program you recommended.

In the meantime I have a 2TB WD internal drive. I will install this in my StarTech external drive cage so I can back up the Lacie data just in case it crashes completely.

I appreciate your input.

It is unlikely that three external hardware devices have failed rather that one Windows 7 Home Edition OS.:??:
Devices from 3 different manufacturers, have tried changing usb ports.
More likely that this Windows OS is croaking and failing to load required drivers, or retain them once device is working (which has happened with Lacie storage drive). :ouch:

As usual, any further input would be appreciated.
