Hi,

I am having an issue with my new build and this is the last place I can turn. I built a decent gaming rig a few months ago:
- Intel I7 4770K Haswell
- ASUS MAXIMUS VI FORMULA LGA 1150 Intel Z87
- G.SKILL Trident X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2400 (PC3 19200) Memory
- MSI N660TI TF 3GD5/OC GeForce GTX 660 Ti 3GB
- TOSHIBA DT01ACA300 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" HDD
- Corsair Force Series GT CSSD-F240GBGT-BK 2.5" 240GB SATA II
- SAMSUNG 840 Pro Series MZ-7PD128BW 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid
- CORSAIR AXi series AX860i 860W Digital PSU

Brand New:
- WD BLACK SERIES WD2003FZEX 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5"

I had a power surge that may have affected some of my components but all except the powersupply were RMA'd. Everything has been working great these last few months except I finally got around to plugging in my brand new WD 2TB HDD and Toshiba 3TB HDD and they are not working (unrecognized).

I am able to use both SSD's without any problems but both of my HDD's are not being recognized even when I switch them to the sata ports the SSD's were on.

My question is why are the SSD's working but both new HDD's are not? Would this be a PSU failure? Or a general HDD malfunction?

Thank you for any and all help!

I am buying a surge protector today! Learned my lesson the hard way!

They are not in the bios or under device management. When I open up my case to check if they are spinning there is no evidence that they are even functional. But what are the odds that two brand new hard drives are not functional?

Open the Windows Control Panel and click on Administrative tools.
When the next window opens click on Computer Management in the right hand column.
When the next window opens click on Disk Management in the left hand column.
When the next window opens you should see information about your drives.

Do the hard disk drives show up in that window?
If the hard drives show up does it indicate the hard drives are online or offline?
If it indicates the hard drives are offline, then place your mouse cursor on the word offline and right click.
When the window opens click online.
Reboot.

With a little luck that should do it.

Hi all,

I bought a new PSU the other day with no luck! I have tried swapping power cables with no avail and still nothing in the Disk Management tool.

I suspect the drive is dead and its on its way back to Newegg. When I buy a new one I am going to use a buddies PC to test it!

Thank you all for the help. I hope it was just the hard drives.
