White Squares flashing across screen

Just yesterday my screen froze up and white squares appeared across it. I gave it a hard reset, to see the same white squares appear right after it passed the bios screen. I thought it was a problem with my nvidia drivers, so I restarted in safe mode and uninstalled the graphics driver through control panel. On the next boot, I didn't see the graphical mumbo jumbo until I started up google chrome. So I restart it. This time, using internet explorer, I download the same driver I used to have (it is the latest WHQL Nvidia driver) from their website, and before it reached halfway through installation the screen came up with the same flashing white squares. Is this a graphics card driver issue? Is this a hardware issue? I've had no problems like this in the past.

I am using windows 8.1 64 bit. I have a Nvidia GTX 645 1 GB Graphics card. I am using driver version 335.23. My computer is a dell xps 8700

This is a similar example of what I am having: https://discussions.apple.com/servlet/JiveServlet/showImage/2-18614035-123477/rsz_img_0106.jpg

Sorry for no-one replying.

hardware faults are the worst, replacing was your only option. Great it works now.
