Basically i did a backup on an external hard drive. The backup got to 59% and stopped, and stayed there for a very long time. Then it rapidly went to 100% and said the backup failed. I went to the external hard drive deets in my computer and it had 200gb of storage (roughly) filled up (brand new hard drive), which was around what i expected. I looked and had a system image and a backup, the backup being 175gb followed by 50ish. However, is this now a faulty backup? Would putting this into a new hard drive work? My hard drive is failing, by the way. Also, would i have to buy a new copy of Win7 to install the backup on?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Backups are usually done before the hdd fails. it sounds like it hit a bad sector and it was not recoverable (ie - the data in the sector was not able to be rescued and moved to a spare sector)

You dont mention which software you are using so see if theres an option to ignore bad sectors or similar and try another image first.
