Is it true windows 8 is better for gaming than windows 7?

I have been reading that windows 8 and windows 8.1 are better for gaming than windows 7 but I'm not sure if this is true or not. Most of the articles say it improves performance with the AMD FX 6 and 8 core cpu's but is the performance difference anything noticeable compared to windows 7? What makes windows 8 better than windows 7 for gaming?

  1. windows 8 is "smaller" and has less background crap running, but i like windows 7 better, and just turn off all the background crap manually if i play demanding games.
  2. From what I know it isn't anything significant (as in worth an upgrade). Maybe for a few games it works better, but otherwise not anything too much better aside from the few games it works better for. I would still recommend it when buying a brand new OS, but it probably isn't worth the upgrade just for gaming

yeah, disabling explorer.exe and gadgets while playing a game on windows 7 is the same.
~~also almost forgot: if you update a self-built rig, sometimes the drivers get effed up, and you have to mess around with uninstalling old and installing new, as well as some of the registry items get effed up...

if you are doing a new build/fresh install (with no previous os) its fine, but it gets messy if you try to "upgrade"
    ~~personal experience ^^ ~~
  4. so little difference, but i still prefer windows 7 on gaming.
