I've recently decided to upgrade my mildly aging Phenom II X4 965, to an i5 4670k.

Now, I plan to overclock this 4670k, of course, but I do not know which motherboard I should pair with it.

I might stray away from ASRock in this situation, as I'm a wee bit disgruntled with my current motherboard; their Extreme3 970; because of a dead DIMM slot, sata slot, as well as a wonky fan header.

My CPU cooler is a CoolerMaster Hyper EVO 212, for anyone curious.

My budget is anywhere from $100-$160/$170, and ATX form factor. Any suggestions are appreciated!

TL;DR, Looking for a motherboard that can suit my needs as an avid gamer, and is capable of overclocking efficiently.

well I suggest you pay 350$..... really? dude it don't matter what you pay or brand you pick. bottom line is when you get it in it either works or it don't. like all the parts you will get. money brand mean nothing if it don't work. you just got to roll the dice and pick the parts that will fit your needs and do the job you need it to do with in your budget and hope they all work well together when you fire it up. I have had real good and also some real junk. I had topline parts fail just as quick and easy as not so topline parts. you just got to go with what you fell is best for your needs and hope you don't roll snake eyes on one of the parts you get.
the 3 boards listed above were on my short list and I ended up with the asrock ex6 so far all been good, but the one thing I found to stay away from for me was the quailcom lan thing I decided to stay with a board with realtec or intel lan . and that's just something you have to look up review and decide your self ... good luck

Not a whole lot of features but still a fairly solid looking board

I'm not lookin' for a board to quad SLI on, thankfully. I think I'll look up some more reviews on this board before I make a final decision.

well the asrock extreme 4 or 6 is still the deal asus removed a few things from there boards that I still use so they were out for me like the rs232 header also my last asus sabertooth 990fx board was nothing but a headache and never worked right , just bad ... the ud4 was my first choice but the price would keep changing from $150 to 189 so I dropped it and settled for the asrock extreme 6 it was $134 at the time I bought and as I said it working nice and so far I been happy with it . but as I said it is all you the giga and asrock had all I needed on them giga is a solid brand and I never tried asrock so I took a chance on them and now I will see if a year or two from now if it was a right choice.

+1 on the Hero, love mine and have done a number of client builds with them, no problems at all and they handle everything I've thrown at them (mine in sig) :)

Many votes on the Hero, haha.

I actually stumbled upon one of Gigabyte's G1 Sniper motherboards, and after reading the many reviews that Google spat at me, I'm honestly considering it. It's on sale at Newegg for $152, ends today though.

If I can't grab this before the sale dies out, I'll see what I can do about Asus' Hero. c:

Sorry about the massive delay. I have decided on a motherboard, which was originally the GA-Z87X-HD3, from Gigabyte, but it died after a day of use.

It took about a week for it to be sent in for a refund, and then I got Gigabyte's G1.Sniper Z87 motherboard; Which is also, basically, the best motherboard that I've worked with. Very nice features, build quality, and the onboard sound is alright, I suppose, it does it's job.

Thank you all for the suggestions.
