Hello everyone, i used to run windows 7 on my computer fine, i then reformatted and windows 7 wouldn't install again for some reason, so for the last few months i've settled with XP again

i used to reformatt a lot when i was on XP every few months to clean my computer feeling fast and clean so i know most of the basic things, my father has used our windows 7 disc to reformatt our laptop we have so our W7 disc MUST work

i just set my bios to boot from my CD drive first, i put the same Windows 7 disc in and nothing happens it just starts up like any normal computer would (doesn't detect the w7 disc atall)

from this i'd wonder if my CD drive works but it's completely fine it picks up other CD's with no problem, if i insert my windows XP CD and try to boot off that it will boot from it (i don't want to delete this current partition incase i'm stuck with nothing) as the windows 7 CD Won't boot as it seems

i've also tried inserting the CD while the computer is turned on and i get the disc icon loading so it must know the windows7 CD is actually inserted it's just choosing not to boot from it or anything?

i'm wondering what i can do from here? i have a removable HD with all my backup files so whatever happens to my current partition i do not mind i just want to clear it and install a fresh installation of windows 7 as W7 has worked fine on this computer in the past

my specs:

Asus P5K
Q6600 socket 775
HD4870
2GB ram
forgot about most of the other specs, ram etc since it's been so long i've had this build
my HD i'm trying to install onto is SATA, my CD/DVD Drive is SATA too if this helps?

i'd appreciate it someone could help, many thanks!

Try using the win7 disc in other system and see if its booting, if its not booting .and if the disc is accessible, try to make a copy of the disc and see if that works. or else try to make a fresh copy of the installation disc

I would also like to share an incident that happened with me as well, i had a xp cd and just like you i used to format my system once in 5 or 6 months to keep it clean and fast. however over a period of time, after 10-15 install the cd wont boot up at all.To my surprise, the contents of the disc were accessible from within the os, but it wasnt bootable. So i happened to compare the contents of the disc, with another copy of the os cd that i had made and i found some boot files missing, i really dont know how the files would have gone missing, but it wasnt there and so i had to throw that disc as it was of no use for me

i have tried this windows 7 CD in another system, i've tried it with my fathers desktop computer and a laptop, if you put the CD in it boots from it, also if you put the windows 7 CD in while the computer is on it loads and lets you open it via my computer

yet it doesn't detect this CD on my computer atall, this is why i was thinking it was my CD drive, but then i'm wondering how can it be my CD Drive? since my CV drives boots from my XP disk fine and recognizes other CD/DVD's

maybe it's just a conflict with only that disc since i've had Windows 7 on my pc before

thank guys
