Can I continue using the stock cooler with 4770?

I have i7 4770 and I am using the stock cooler. I get around 37C on idle and 60C on gaming. Should it be normal this way or should I get a 3rd party cooler? I cannot overclock so it will stay at the 3.5 ghz it came with.

Can't OC, I have non-K model

You are thinking of graphics cards.
Most Intel processors have a max temp of 73C, some have an even lower max temp. Once they reach this temp, or near it, they will shutdown.

I remember I was running a benchmark test and the CPU went up to 76C but didn't shutdown, so your theory is invalid

That's plain wrong. Recommended operating temp is 72.72c. You will not see many differences until 80c. 80c starts using more power and thus more heat, and some think it will degrade there. Loads like AVX and AVX2 are allowed by intel to push the stock vcore higher (Usually 1.3 or 1.25) and will cause temps in the 90c area. This is considered a non-positive by many, but it is still covered by warranty. 99c is the throttle point, your chip will start slowing down now to stay in the temperature limits. Damage is quite possible. 105ish is thermal shutdown to prevent killing the chip. You can only get there on purpose or by a failed fan or heatsink, otherwise thermal throttle will have done it's job and kept the chip cooler.

Have you ever used an intel chip?
