Hi,

I have a (getting old) mini-dv camera and I would like to get all the video from the mini-dv tapes onto my computer to then sell this camera as I really have no need for it anymore ...

The problem is:
-it looks like its impossible to use USB to import video from my mini-dv to my PC ...
-I have no firewire port on any of my computers/laptop

I have been reading about several different solutions online on how to do that but really no clear and easy answer ...

Anyone has already gone through this process could advise me on what is the best solution to get these recordings onto my PC?

Thanks
Vincent

To digitise my old home movie videos, I hooked up a video player to my hdd tv recorder which worked ok.

Maybe you can do same/similar.

You can try using a firewire to usb converter. We first connected our (canon vixia mini dv) camcorder to the computer using a 4-pin to 6-pin firewire, and then a 6-pin to usb converter. It didn't work for me but does work with some cameras. You can also try using an av to vhs converter, which attaches to your cameras av jacks, and again to another set of av jacks which then connects to your usb. You can buy a mini dv to computer adapter, but those are really expensive. Or you can connect your mini dv camcorder directly to the av jacks in your dvd player/recorder and rip the files that way. If all of that doesn't work (didn't for me with this particular camera) there are people who transfer these things for a living. We ended up calling a place that develops pictures: they physically put the mini dv tape on a reel and convert to video from the still images.
