Clean install from Windows 7, but no key

Hello all,

Going to try and explain as well as I can...
I recently purchased an SSD, and want to do a clean install of my OS onto it, rather than cloning.

My current OS is Win8, upgraded from Win7.

My understanding is that, due to Win8 being an upgrade version, I need to install Win7 onto my SSD first. The issue is: I cannot for the life of me find my Win7 key.

Would it be possible to do a No-key install of Win7, avoid activating, and then upgrade to Win8? I do have the Win8 product key. Otherwise, would phone activation work, even though it's a bit of an older product?

Do you guys/gals have any other solutions that might be feasible? Highly appreciated!

EDIT: completely forgot to mention my upgrade was for Win8 with Media Center.

I dunno if the steps are legal or not, if it is illegal please simply remove this post.
Thank you

It's a borderline issue with me and I'll check it out with the other members of the Mod Team. The site to which you linked declares itself to be unconnected with Microsoft and has no approval from them. The link to the ISO goes straight back to Eight Forums and not to Microsoft's own site.

Beyond that, the article is eighteen months old and unless I missed something, doesn't even mention 8.1.

I'll leave the post here until we can get a ruling on this one but generally, if anyone hasn't made a set of recovery DVDs, they run the risk of not being able to overcome a problem.
