Right all, I have seen some threads regarding this problem on the internet but yet to find a solution, the bios on the z87 is messed up meaning it works as you can operate in the tabs but it's all blocky and its frozen in some places .... I figured out when the gpu isnt in and using on board graphics the bios works fine but as soon as my r9 290 is plugged in the bios screen freezes but is still operational seems corrupted (Bios is updated)

cheers all

Do you know the ability of your Power Supply? What is its wattage? Since the r9 290 requires 300W as a maximum TDP, so if your system is not getting enough power it might react depending on the PSU and the motherboard, so it might cause slow downs, freezes or halts.

Will get a picture later on when I go home and update this post but I have

i5 4670K 3.8GHZ
ASUS Z87 PRO
8gb vengence ram
ASUS R9 290X 4GB
120 INTEL SDD
1TB Hybrid secondary drive.
750w powersupply (Cannot remember the model will update)

Like i mentioned which is weird the bios works perfectly with no gpu but when gpu is in the bios seems corrupted but usable kind off

thanks

Your PSU is sufficient for that system, but some "bad" PSUs out there only show their "Peak" maximum power and not the stable continuous power.

It might also be something else other than the PSU.

It doesn't seem to be a power supply problem at all.. I am even starting to think its rather software related than hardware.

Maybe your card glitches with the BIOS since that graphic card is still brand new and not fully supported by many BIOS software?

Mjaoune - That is a good thought mate,

EasyLover - I have updated to the newest bios and cleared the cmos before but still have the same issue .... Very annoying as it takes me 5 mins in the bios to do something where it should take 30seconds :(

Have you downloaded the latest BIOS version for your ASUS z87 Pro which was released on 2014/03/14?

http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/LGA1150/Z87-PRO/Z87-PRO-ASUS-1802.zip

Seems your motherboard BIOS is actively updated since its a new motherboard, so if that update didn't work, surely the next one will ;)

I don't think anyone here can help you with the problem, since your GPU and your MOBO are both new and has not been used together by many people, and even the ones who did, not all of them care about the BIOS.

If I were you, I would contact ASUS themselves telling them about the problem, and they will fix it in their next update, since as I told you, none have reported that problem to them so they don't know about it.

Contact them from here: https://vip.asus.com/VIP2/Services/QuestionForm?lang=en-us

Thanks for you're reply , I have not bought a new computer in a long while so all this is new to me and just probably being inpatient!

But like you say i hope there will be a fix at some point :)
