Computer power randonmly cuts off, then restarts!!

I recently bought an overclocked computer (intel core i5 4670K OC'd to 4.3GHZ), it has 8GB of 1833Mhz RAM, and the GTX780 graphics card, all supplied by a 750W EVGA power supply.

The motherboard is an MSI Z87-G45 gaming board.

I am experiencing a problem where my computer will randomly cut off, and then immediately restart again. Sometimes it happens while gaming, sometimes it will happen when on the desktop and idle.

Upon restart, I get a message from the motherboard saying that the overclock has failed and that default settings have been loaded. When i go into windows and check the event viewer, it says 'Kernel-power (41)'

Any suggestions on what could be causing this??? ( i know the message says overclock failed, but according to overclockers.com my overclock and voltages should be stable)

Kernel-power (41) won't narrow down your problem as such im afraid it can be caused by anything from a driver issue to faulty hardware, here is the explanation of the event code that would be good for you to read http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2028504

if you have installed any programs recently you can try removing them the same goes for any new hardware like soundcards or wifi adapters as there may be a driver issue

if the problem persists you may need to think of hardware issues like faulty ram or maybe even a faulty psu so running memtest would be a good idea to test the ram

I have tested the RAM already and it came up clean, uninstalled un-wanted drivers (had killer network adapter from MSI and realtek network driver so uninstalled realtek) and my Vcore voltage is at 1.23v I think! but will have to double check. It hasn't done it today thankfully, but im assuming it will happen again soon, it is literally a random occurance

I have no experience of buying pre-oveclocked systems but i would assume they must do extensive stability testing wouldn't they? I would think 1.23v would make that one of the better chips for overclocking maybe it is a bit low,

are you comfortable with using your BIOS to save the overclock you have to a profile and then setting to stock settings and see does it effect the problem,

It could be the psu have you tried contacting overclockers.com and seeing what there response is to the problem as im sure it should still be under warranty

So I've ran Ram test, and disk check, both came up clean. And my computer has run great for two days now, until a few minutes ago when it randomly cut off again!! grrr. I'll check the BIOS settings now, and change the Vcore voltage to 1.25 and see how it goes, hopefully that'll sort it :)

Ok so I went into the BIOS, and the core voltage was already set at 1.265v (there was a figure next to it at 1.28v in grey and was blinking, maybe that was the voltage it was detecting?) so I've left the vcore as it is.

But I did notice that the ring voltage was set to 1.235v and was highlighted in red, and the grey blinking number next to it was 1.256v. Does this mean the rign voltage is too low? what do you guys recommend I change?

1.235 v. is pretty stout for Ring Voltage. In the MSI BIOS, any number showing in red is a warning sign that MSI engineers feel that number is too high.

I keep mine at 1.190 v.

Hi yogi, i've turned the overclock off complete and laoded default settings on the bios. So far there has been no more random shut downs :) however it has only been two days, and the events were completely random. so will leave the cpu at stock for a few more days and see how it goes, if no crashes occur then i must assume the OC settings were wrong and i will adjust them accordingly

Good Plan. I hope that it proves to be stable at default settings.
