I am on Windows 7 and I am trying to use an older Canoscan N67OU scanner .I have downloaded the TOOLBOX 4.9 version and the LIDE20Lide30n670un...driver.
I have also done the settings in the Environment Variables section ( System) by entering the value c:\Windows\Twain_32\CNQL20 under PATH.
It still does not work. I get a message " Unable to find the TWAIN source" and the SCANNER line in the Settings section of the TOOLBOX is blank.

Any help, please?

Thanks
Ittiandro

In most cases on these forums you get hit with a stack of technical jargon and things to try, mostly confusing to the person that's asking for help and complicating the situation. I find that in 9 out of 10 ocassions, there is a very simply solution that nobody puts on the Internet or is not put where those that need it can easily find it.
Try this first, it can't hurt and just ensures that you have the correct drivers ready and it forces Twain set up. Reason: Windows XP and perhaps all the other versions, will only remember the last path to manually look for a driver, why I do not know, but what an oversight from Microsoft aye? All you are doing here is sending Windows to the correct place (Your Installation Disk or Downloaded files) by choosing the location of the required files. If on Disk, just select the drive you have it in and click [Next] or [Ok] or whatever continues to do the job.

Procedure:
To install the Twain driver:
•Verify that the scanner appears in Device Manager (Start - Settings - Control Panel - double-click "System")
•Select "Hardware"
•Select "Device Manager".
•The scanner is located under "Other Devices"
•Double-click "CanoScan".
•Select "Reinstall Driver" to display the "Wizard updated equipment".
•Click "Next".
•Select "Install from a list or specific location" and click "Next." .
•Click "Browse" and locate the CD drive with the CanoScan CD-ROM in it (eg F:).
•You can then choose the correct driver (English) and it is done.
Only if required: Re-install Canoscan and it will include the Twain driver.

As far as I know, Windows 7 & 8 don't like older hardware such as Canon scanners. I tried installing to a Windows 8 computer and it won't even recognise it and of course the software & programs on disk are for Windows versions up to XP (in my case). In this case you normally have to look for a newer driver on the Canon site (good luck with that) :(

I have this scanner, and Windows 7. If you're using 32 bit Win7 you should be able to get it to work, but I'm guessing you're on 64-bit as I am. Trying to install it on Win7 64 bit produces that error because Canon haven't/won't release a 64-bit version of the necessary driver.

I spent a lot of time trying to get it to work (and I only wanted to test it before selling on) including different drivers and the like, with no luck using Canon software. I eventually got it to work using Vuescan (http://www.hamrick.com). You can download the trial software to confirm you can get it working as I did, but for a longer term solution you'd have to buy Vuescan.

i think moonstick2 has hit the source of the issue. I've got a canon LIDE 600F and ever since i went to 64bit win 7, i've had to re-install the twain driver every so often, as it seems to "dis-appear". Occasionally simply dis-connecting the scanner and reconnecting brings it back.

Been planning to replace the scanner for more years than i care to think about, but mechanically the thing is fine - it's just the twain driver disappears occasionally and i've learned to live with the semi-annual to annual re-install.
