First Time PC Builder! Need Help!

Hey Guys,

So I'm a first timer when it comes to PC building. I have done a fair amount of research and come to the conclusion that these are the components that I want In my build:

GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 780
MOBO: MSI Z87-G45
CPU: Intel i7 4771 3.5 Ghz

I have already found a case that I enjoy.

What I need help with is deciding on what RAM would suit this build? (I will be using this build to game).

If you have any idea's to help me it would not go unappreciated!

Brand isnt that big of a deal anymore, the last 2 builds i went with was what on sale (rebate, instant coupons, etc). I like to stick with OCZ or Corsair RAM. Although there are about 5 or 6 other brands...

It depends on what you will be doing? 8GB is more than enough if you just plan to game.

If you want to do more RAM intensive activities or host VMs on your machine, etc you would want 16GB+.

If you can find a good deal on 16GB, then don't pass it up as it will future proof your system to some extent, but I wouldn't pay double the cost of an 8GB kit for 16GB right now.

EDIT: Your mobo is a bit pricey for your config, you don't have an unlocked CPU, so that money may be better spent on other components!

And if you are only going to game an i7 is overkill and wasted money which can be spent on GPU, RAM, PSU, etc.

I am aiming for 16GB with my RAM. My intended question was what brand should I be looking for and what would work well with my motherboard?

Although there are about 5 or 6 other brands that are just as good. Just make sure you get matching RAM Kits (aka buy 2 of the same if they are 8GB RAM kits).

The Motherboard you chose can handle almost all RAM out there (it supports up to OC 3000 i believe.)

Here is an example of some good RAM, get 2 of these with the coupon codes its cheaper than its 16GB kit:

I would use pcpartpicker to find if its cheaper anywhere else though, or if you want another brand use that site too.

I think I worded that wrong. I don't plan just to game! I will be doing my video editing and audio engineering on there too.

I'm just looking for a good company that makes RAM and works well with my config.

I know I may have gotten a bit pricey on things but I feel like better safe than sorry.

Just looking to get my build better. I have already bought the processor so I can't come back from that one!

So yeah! Any good brand of RAM is much appricated! :)

Realize you're asking about ram (I've had great luck with Corsair Vengeance - and you only need up to about 1866, 1600 is fine) but I have to ask why you have an overclocking chipset with a clock-blocked CPU. If you are gaming you'd be better off with Z87 and a 4770K. If running VMs, Q87 is the way to go (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Series_8_chipset#Original_Haswell_chipsets)
