Im trying to use this ram to upgrade my Elitebook from 4GB to 6GB:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231341

Im trying to use ONE of the original 2GB sticks and ONE Gskill 4GB that i bought from newegg

However, when i turn on the PC after upgrading, it shows the windows boot logo for about half a second and goes to windows error recovery screen where it gives me 2 options: "Start windows normally" and something along the lines of "try to repair PC"

When I put the original 2gb stick back in, everything works perfectly. The only thing google tells me is that ONLY low density RAM will work with this laptop. however i dont know how to tell if its low density or not?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thank you!

That is little weird.
By HP own specification it should support it

Copy from HP Elitebook 8440p specification:
Memory:
Standard : DDR3 PC3-10600 SDRAM (1333 MHz)* Two SODIMM slots supporting dual-channel memory 1024MB, 2048MB, 3072MB, or 4096MB
Maximum : Upgradeable to 8192MB with 4096MB SODIMMs in slots 1 and 2

Try to remove original stick and keep only 4gb one inside. Also try to put it into both slots to check if it will boot. If it wont boot in neither of those try that new 4gb in other PC if you can, there is still little chance that new memory is faulty. Another good test would be to have 2 same 4gb to put in both slots to see if it will boot.

Hopefully one of those steps will find which one is faulty if new memory or...

[I had the same problem, seems that the memory voltage has to be 1.35, I used Gskill 1.5 volt, and got the same errors you did. the mac mini also used 1.35 volt memory. Hope this helps. order Crucial, at least they are local and have a chat for help. Gskill is in Taiwan, and good luck getting help from them.
