I’m testing a simple VPN using PPTP from my home network to my work network. I’m using Windows built-in VPN under New Incoming Connection. Everything is working, that is not the problem. The problem is that I have set the VPN connection to disconnect if idle but it never disconnects when it is idle. I tried 20 minutes, then 1 minute, and from two different PC’s. One running W7 from my home network and the other W8.1 from my neighbor’s network.
I’m setting the idle time to hang-up from the VPN connection on the client side PC’s under Options under the VPN Connection Properties. I have no idea why it will not disconnect after the connection is idle.
I would set it up to disconnect from the server/host side (W8.1 desktop at work), but I didn’t see an option to disconnect if idle from the server/host side. I would think the server would have the privilege of deciding when to disconnect a client, especially if they forget to disconnect and tie up the line, since only one user can connect via the VPN.
Can someone please enlighten me to why the disconnect when idle feature does not work as advertised?
Thank You
Mike
