Slow Internet when gaming with roomates

Hey everyone, so when my roomates and I (4 people) game together, we all usually lag using wifi. But when we split, 2 people using ethernet, and 2 people using wifi, we can game fine with no lag.

I just wanted to ask why is it that we lag when we are gaming through wifi? is it our modem that is too slow or our router? or is it our connection speed?

We currently have internet speeds 30mb/s, and i believe a 350n router. Our modem is just the one that our internet provider (Charter) gave us.

well if it is better with two on ethernet, then that pretty much eliminates your cable modem.

so your router is where the issue is. What frequency is the router? and your wirelesss cards?

if you dont mind spending a few bucks, get a good 5ghz dual band router and wireless cards that can connect to the 5ghz frequency.

Our router is actually really cheap, bout it for $15...Its a Tenda brand. I don't know which frequency it is, but we all use laptops.

I've read about getting a better router, one that can do both 5ghz and 2.4 ghz. And then split the roomates between those two

Better equipment makes ALL the difference on wireless speeds, especially when multiple people are using it. There may not be much you can do about the laptops, but this is almost certainly a router problem. A decent router (think $100, +/- $20) will do wonders.
