What's your opinion on buying pre-owned motherboards and other major components?

Found an Asus crosshair v formula with an Fx 8350 for £150, both working.

This is ideal because I still need a motherboard and a CPU for the PC I'm building.
I was going to get a Gigabyte 970a-ud3p + Fx 8350, costs around £200

What should I do?

that's a steal on the Asus and FX combo. I'd buy that in a heartbeat. the Crosshair V formula is a little bit old... the formula-Z is hte newer model... but it's still a great board.

150 pounds, definitely worth that, probably worht even more

What would you figure the lifespan on mobo and the CPU would be?
After all, this is my fist PC build and I don't want it to go dying on me.

The old user might have use it for a long time and the capacitors may be nearly dead !
If its your first build I would suggest you to buy new components for a reasonable lifespan!
And if it is new there would be warranty on it if something fails you will be able to send it back.
