I'm looking to build a home office PC for a family member. It will only be used for basic stuff - internet browsing, spreadsheets, quicken, things like that. No games.

I saw NewEggs shellshocker deal today:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboBundleDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.1623171

Does anyone have input on whether these components will work well? I would assume so, since they wont be doing anything too taxing, but I havent been keeping up with components much since my last build a few years ago.

Any feedback would be appreciated! let me know if you have any questions.
thanks!

Yes, that would work well. I just built a system similar to that for my classroom, but ultimately cost more when I threw in the parts I had laying around.
Only upgrade you might need is another 4GB stick of RAM
And a legitimate OS.

Since it is an office environment, the extra $40 might be worth it. It does allow/provide for encrypting of files.
W7 Ultimate allows the whole drive to be encrypted (BitLocker), but is $189 at Newegg.

It will work just fine. For stuff you mention much older and weaker components would be enough. This setup should provide enough power for all that and for that price it's nice too. CPU is just year and half old model and that integrated GPU can also run some older or low demand games.

If you'll be using it for general computing, that's actually a decent setup. The power supply is crap, but if it's only being used to power an APU to do general computing, it'll be ok. For this kind of use, Intel would be ideal, but that's a hell of a price for a quad-core APU build. All it needs is a copy of Windows.

The biggest concern is the power supply. 500 watts is more then enough for that build, it is just that the quality will be really low and its just not good to go cheap on the device that can fry all the other components.

While the A8 (or A10 series) quad core processors are not as good as amd's fx serries processors nor intels processors. If you are just doing microsoft office and web surfing/web applications you should be fine though.

Everything else is fine, if you need to do more multitasking then you will want to buy another stick of ram.

FYI the build does not include a windows OS so you will have to buy a windows license unless you plan on loading ubuntu or already have an unused windows key.
