Custom pc performance issues

Okay, I very recently built a custom pc thinking that it would be fine for what I want to play and what settings I want to play at. Since I've built it some games have met my expectations, others. Not so much.

Take for example I can run sniper ghost warrior 2 at maximum settings yet when I play saints row the third, I can't play max settings and have to select specific settings, turning it onto the ultra preset will cause it to run at 50 fps indoors and have performance spikes outdoors from a rare 60 fps to a common 25 fps. Why is this Happening? Before I carry on here are my PC specifications.

Motherboard: ASUS H81M-E
Processor: i3 4330 @ 3.5 ghz
Graphics card: EVGA Geforce gtx 750 ti (standard)
Memory: Corsair Vengance DDR3 1600mhz (2x4gb)
Psu: Corsair 430W

Everything is new in the system, including the WD Caviar blue hard drive. I can't wrap my head around why it is underperforming, I heard saints row 3 was a badly ported console game but all my mates play it at a constant 60 fps, even while my graphics card vastly outperforms theirs!

The only reason I can think of such games underperforming is the CPU being a dual core, despite having 4 hyper threads. It's not bottlenecking, not overheating and all drivers are up to date! Well, saying it doesn't overheat but does reach it's maximum rated temps (72degrees)

And as far as corsair are concerned the ram is fully compatible with the motherboard. I've run pass mark tests and the CPU is getting around 2000 in the pass mark test, I'm guessing that it's for some reason using one core to give it that score instead of the average 5000 other identical processors get, I've run prime95 and CPU-z along with the intel overclocking software and they all produce the same result, both cores are in fully accessible working condition, running at the right clock speed! Also all hardware & software (games included) are up to date, bios, Gpu drivers etc..

If the processor is In fact limiting the performance would the i5 4440 be a suitable replacement for £35 more ($55)? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated as to why there are such dramatic differences in performance and how I can fix this problem.

Thanks in advance - Jack

some games are CPU limited, some are GPU limited. if you're playing at 1080p and trying to play on ultra, you're asking alot of entry level cpu/gpu.

install msi afterburner and use the monitoring to watch CPU usage and gpu usage. in any game, one of these is going to be at 100%. so in that particular game, theres your bottleneck.

if your CPU is hitting its max temp, it would then throttle back for a few seconds.

you have several factors here in asking an entry PC to play on ultra.

why dont you use the Geforce Experience panel and use the 'optimize my games' - it will probably move you down to medium/high on most

Thanks for your answer :)

I used the geforce experience panel on all the games I buy, it sets almost all of them for the highest/just under. same case with the saints row the third, so I'm guessing it is CPU limited? Also I play at 900p In case that helps.

I also play planetside 2 which was extremely CPU based but has been shifted more towards the Gpu, so I'm guessing that it still is quite demanding in the CPU for a system like mine, however it manages to play at my selected settings (ultra) at 40 fps in quite intense battles and 60 whilst no fighting is going on, this is what I can't understand!

Although I will have to try using the msi afterburner as you suggested thanks again.

Not yet, although my case has quite good airflow. (Zalman z11) and I get 30 degrees in the case, is this too hot for the motherboard?

Also should I get an aftermarket cooler for my CPU now or should I exchange it with the i5 4440 then get the cooler?

you really need a cpu cooler (like the cooler master hyper 212 evo)
http://www.coolermaster.com/cooling/cpu-air-cooler/hyper-212-evo/
you can buy it right now ...universal fit ,do not worries about if it will fit or not

''Not yet, although my case has quite good airflow. (Zalman z11) and I get 30 degrees in the case, is this too hot for the motherboard? ''

i do not talk about the pc case ...i talk about heat dissipation is bad on your mobo because only 3 phases and no heatsink on the vrm ..so it can give somes lags
if you can put more case fan it will cool more

Yeah but what I'm asking is is 30 degrees inside the pc case hot for this kind of mobo or is it standard temp and will perform normally? & thanks for info on the CPU cooler :)

What I really want to know the answer to is why is there such varied performance between these games? I know that saints row 3 is a fairly large game to render but so is planetside 2 and I get from 40 to 60 fps when playing it as a pose to saints row 3 where I get 20 to 40 fps!

well..sometime can be a driver conflict , i mean somes games can be altered by the driver version you use and at the same time other games run well with this driver...
sometime is good to remove completely the gpu driver and cleanly , and reinstall the driver again
depending on which games you play a older driver version can be better to use instead of new one

Yeah, I suppose I'll have to try to get the older games on my console and the newer from here on out on my pc, don't want to be constantly swapping between drivers :p
