Every couple of minutes every device on my home network loses internet connection (it actually happened again the first time I was typing this post), often with a message saying something about a DNS error. It only started about a week or so ago. I have several wireless connection and my Xbox 360 has a wired connections (with a CAT6a cable if it helps). Resetting the router seems to be a temporary fix, but I'm looking for a more permanent solution. I think my router is a Verizon Actiontec GT784WNV, but I'm not sure, the picture looks close. I'm sorry for the lack of information, I'm a complete noob when I comes to this internet networking stuff. Hopefully you guys can provide a solution, and I'd be happy to provide more specifics if you tell me how to find it. Thanks!

The problem is likely on the ISP side with their DNS servers. Next time you get a disconnect, try using google's ip directly in the browser instead of google.ca. If you're on a good ISP, it should go away soon as their techs fix their servers.

Do you have a modem and a seperate router or is it just one machine? Do you have access to the admin settings of both the router and the modem?
Are you on DHCP or Static iPs? Win + R type ipconfig/all and post the information, specifically DHCP and if autoconfig is enabled.
Run a tracert to any website. Go into CMD and type in: tracert google.ca
Note the ip address that the error comes up at, if it starts with 192.168 it is an internal issue with the router/modem. If it isn't then your DNS servers are actually down. If you go to the browser and type the iP address directly, does it still connect? Try google at 173.194.70.94
There are alternative, free dns servers. Comodo secureDNS is an example.

1. The router and modem are separate

2. I think I do for the router (if it's the http://192.168.1.1), not sure for the modem

3. I have no idea what DHCP or Static iP means, unless that's in the ipconfig thing

4.When I type ipconfig/all, nothing comes up, and when I just do ipconfig a black screen with text pops up for a fraction of a second and then goes away

5. I see a 192.168.1.1, but no error message, I assume I'm supposed to do this during the few minutes the I get the problem

Also, I haven't noticed it in the past day or so (although I haven't been on any devices much either), so it may have corrected itself, I guess I'll wait and see
