Is there a way to sell or trade a couple sticks of RAM?

Over a year ago, I bought two 4GB Crucial memory sticks for a relative's laptop. She waited over a year to install them and when she did she got the endless spinning circle. She called Crucial customer support and was advised that they had originally recommended this RAM for her computer make and model, but it was later discovered that it was not the appropriate RAM for that computer. The customer service rep also advised her that because it was over a year since the RAM was purchased, she could not exchange it for the correct RAM. The sticks are in their original packaging and have been sitting undisturbed for several months. BTW, when I ordered her RAM I also ordered RAM from Crucial for my Dell Inspiron, which turned out to be the exact same type of RAM that was sent for my relative's HP Pavilion. I installed it right away and it works just fine.

Since the price of RAM has risen so much, I would think that it would be easy to sell it. Is there a way that I can sell this RAM or exchange it for the needed RAM? I prefer to sell it locally (Los Angeles). I’m not going to put an ad on Craigslist as I don’t want to deal with random strangers. Also, I assume people will want to install the RAM in their computers to see if they work and the sticks could be mishandled and damaged. I don’t want to send the RAM off somewhere as we all know the complications that could ensue. I’ve heard that there is an informal community of computer geeks who trade computer components or even have computer swap meets – is that a recommended way to go and how could I contact someone in that group? Thanks in advance for any advice.

So, you want to sell it, but you don't want to deal with selling it.
There's a price to pay for selling things, and that price is the time to sell it, and the risk that it comes back. I wouldn't buy your ram if you didn't offer to take it back if it didn't work, and I don't think anyone else would either. Especially since it's used. It's like selling a car but not allowing anyone to test drive it. you need to decide if you really want to sell it.
