Wish I had a lead... I still have the same issues with mine... track your CPU/GPU usage in some games that this happens in, we'll see whats going on. For example, I get low GPU usage in BF3/BF4/Crysis 2/Crysis 3 (in some parts) and the fps only drops when my GPU usage drops. Now what's causing the GPU usage to drop? that could be our answer.

Hey there. Im running BF4 on ultra. 100% scaling, motion blur 50% and VSyn off.. My system:
AMD FX 8350 stock, AsRock FX 990 extreme3, G-skill 1866 7CL 8GB Dual channel, 120GB eva 840 SSD, Windows 7 64Bit, EVGA 1000W Gold, Sapphire R9 290.
I've learned that drivers are sooo imporant. It can make that huge difference. So, i recommend to install the latest driver from AMD, the 14.4. This is a beta driver. I did saw some fps improfement in BF4 runnin those settings that i said in the beginning. Also, I'm planning to get another Sapphire R9 290 Tr-x.. TO crossfire them:O I have no idea how it will perform. But i got the feeling it will do the job. I want Vsyn ON aswell with no FPS drop under 60.

There must be something that is missing in these AMD cpu low FPS issues with BF4 because some run fine.

Huibinator, I get 75 min FPS already with a 280x on nearly all maps. The usual Hainan Resort, Paracel lag causes drops into the 60's on occasion, but with your 290 you shouldn't see below 75 ever.

Hey guys, caught a bit of a lead, but it will take some power. I set my 8350 in bios CPU configuration sp that HPC mode is enabled. It uses quite a bit more power, but it stabalizes the 8350's clock, and my minimum fps now is hardly 55fps. Seems my 8350 is keeping up with my 290 finally, since when I switch to high settings, I manage 80-130 finally. about 60-100 Ultra, with minor drops to 55, even hainan resort in the toughest parts of the map saw 60-70, with a few drops to 56-58.

Doesn't seem to generate anymore heat, or increase fan speeds or anything, but I guarantee you are drawing more power with it running like this... basically makes the 8350 act like an intel, just consuming 2x the power :p

I can live with it since it works, but sort of stupid that the chip has to draw over 125w to run correctly...

I completely disagree with you sorry. I have had many problems with these shit driver installations and updates. I hope they fix all this crap and give me official download links to older drivers

That was kind of sarcasm. :)
Because I saw too much about AMD driver problems and I saw people screaming that AMD has good optimization, some people voted down for my comment in one article where I said that AMD has poor optimization

Uhmm..! You really run it all Ultra with 100scaling, 50% motion blur, 1080p? If so, than you got one nice system to go for. But i think you are right. Before I installed the 14.4 driver, i had not that great FPS. But now i do (i find)

BTW, I can be a lot of thing! for example. If you running on a low RAM speed. it will give a bottneck. I advise you to check everything (like in uw BIOS). You could try to compare it to my system.

See I got EVERYTHING tweaked, and still have low fps... shouldn't have to "squeeze" performance out of my 8350 unless its a bottleneck. I have HPC mode enabled and OC'd to 4.4ghz, and its a bit smoother, but I am still seeing only 50-100fps on ultra, and low GPU usage continues...
I might switch to intel, because this is happening in FAR too many games. Why isn't anyone else with this 8350/290/290x/780/780ti complaining?

Yes. Our systems are VERY similar, how does your PC run BF3 and BF4? Crysis 2/Crysis 3?
Seems to only be BF3/BF4 multiplayer, as I get 114-195fps on all ultra settings inside the train on the first mission of BF3, but 30-65fps on Gulf of Oman in BF3 multiplayer...
BF4 single player runs over 60 in single player, even on DX11, and 70-120 with Mantle of Mantle
BF4 multiplayer... 48-110fps on ultra... like 40-75 on DX11... and I get the same fps basically every game settings... My gpu usage drops in multiplayer as my FPS drops, so It seems something is dropping me and my friends GPU usage.
Yet, I run Metro Last Light 51-70fps on all very high settings + 2x ssaa, and taking AA off actually increases my FPS to 90-110 like it should... Metro is a GPU based game...
What do you think it could be? My friend has the same issue, and is only on an 8350, 970 mobo, and r9 290 PCS+

I have already:
-Updated DX11 and VC versions
-Updated BIOS
-Updated 990FX MOBO Drivers to latest (latest is only Windows 8, there is no 8.1 MOBO chipset, only some are Windows 8.1) I have no Realtek sound driver, I tried them, didn't like them, but they didn't increase my fps any either.
-Wiped drivers with DDU, and then fresh installed 14.4 chipsets and 14.4 graphics drivers, and Asus MOBO drivers, SEVERA times.
-Unparked cores- (did nothing for win 8.1, and nothing for my friend with win 7.)
-reinstalled windows 8.1... nothing...
Hard to blame a missing or broken drivers, since my friend has never uninstalled/messed with drivers, and gets the same performance issues as me. He's updated to 14.4 drivers, didn't mess with anything else, and matches my performance even after all the driver tweaking I've done. and He's on Windows 7!

How did you install MOBO drivers, we have the same board. Are you just on default MOBO drivers your board came with or? Do you have any performance issues in any games? It's not in all games, but the ones that it happens in, lowering settings hardly helps fps, making me blame the cpu.

Just to compare to see how my hardware isn't defective
Unigine Valley Extreme HD: 56fps (58fps with my cpu at 4.8 like yours)
Unigine Heaven 4.0 Ultra: 50.6 fps
Metro Last Light benchmark tool Max w/ SSAA on: 43fps
Metro 2033 Benchmark tool all very high: 51fps
Hitman absolution ultra and 8xMsaa: 52.2fps
3Dmark11 Firestrike: 7936
just to compare to yours to prove that mine is performing correctly... jsut not in certain programs that seem to be bottlenecking my computer, when I don't think they should be.

My system runs BF4 beautifully, consistently 80+ FPS on Ultra, no FPS drops. I don't play Crysis so I can't comment on that game.

One difference I notice from your system, is that I run Windows 7. I don't think that should have any affect, but just wanted to throw that out there. Also, I am using a hybrid hard drive; I have noticed that has been a big difference over a standard 7200 drive. I am also using 16gb of ram; do you run alot of programs in the background when playing? Do you run dual monitors?

I don't use any special motherboard drivers; just have the official 14.4 AMD drivers installed and whatever drivers Windows 7 uses to run everything else.

So you haven't downloaded any MOBO drivers? Wonder if that's an issue. How does your rig run on DX11 vs Mantle? really over 80 consistently? Can't even imagine that happening for me, this rig has never run that well...

I do run dual monitors, but I lose virtually no fps, and get the same performance as my friend with only his single monitor...

Think it could be anything else?

That is running Mantle for me. DX11 doesn't run as well; inconsistent and lower FPS.

Here is my question. Just whose drivers are ya'll using? Sapphire, like most 3rd party manufacturers, use customised settings and drivers in their gpus and software. AMD drivers and software work best with AMD Gpu's and could possibly have issues with custom setups. If not directly specified to use the stuff from AMD's website, its usually recommended to do that stuff from the gpu manufacturers. It may help.

Checked alrady, sapphire has no specific driver, and my friend has these issues with his power color card as well, and he only uses AMD site drivers and coolwolf has no issues just using AMD's software with his MSI... I don't think that is the issue here

i noticed my vcore1 temps were above 60 while gaming and this made my cpu temps to go up since they are like 1 inch apart in the motherboard so i played around with some bios settings i turned off turbo boost turned llc to 50% and changed a few other stuff and managed to get the vcore under 60 or 54 average while gaming which is a big improvement but i didnt see any fps boost.i have been thinking it probably the cpu but others have intel cpu with the r9 290 and have the exact problem so i am stuck right here.i really dont know what to do since i get random fram drops in every game

Yep... thinking about getting an intel mobo and 4770k to throw in, install on a separate hdd (maybe a new SSD) a new copy of windows, try it out, and send it back if its not any faster.
