Hey guys, Just wondering if the RAM speeds and latency will make any difference, or if either is better than the others. All of the RAM sticks listed below are the same price and even if they weren't, which do you guys think is the best out of the bunch? Also, what do you guys think overall of Ares vs Ripjaws X from G. Skill. Finally, I plan to do some video editing with Premiere, using almost all of the Adobe products, playing modern games at very high (if not the best settings), and getting into content creation such as YouTube and live streaming stuff. I should probably also mention that I'm one of those fifty-open-tabs at once type of multi-taskers.

Solution
For FX-8320, go with the 1866CL8 as it will give the least amount of trouble since 1866 is highest "supported" on the FX CPUs. 2133 is possible but not officially supported. You can most definitely configure the 1866CL8 as 2133 through overclocking anyways if your CPU can handle it.
Do the math, and all those are pretty close in absolute latency.

There are rare better kits like 1600CL6, 2000CL7, 2133CL8, and 2400CL9 but they are hard to find and cost a premium.

Recent CPUs run better on the higher frequency kits seemingly regardless of latency. What CPU do you have?

Thanks, I've been working on it for quite a while and it gives me a sense of pride already because of all the research and time I've been working on it in anticipation of the actual build. Been trying to get the best value out of my money.

It's tough to say. All the recent G.Skill RAM is made with Samsung ICs that vary a lot and most of them won't do 1866CL8. They bin those that do. My 2133's can do 2400CL10 but no 1866CL8 :(

Hmm underclocking, sounds pretty good too, although I wasn't aware that you could adjust the Cas latency as well. Also, I like both the look of the Ares and the Ripjaws, but the Ares fitting under nearly all CPU coolers sounds nice for "upgradability".

lol rate my guide that I wrote yesterday :)

But really I do this stuff for fun, not reputation (though I'm getting very high rep on overclock.net too heh).

Maybe I'm stupid but I can't find where it says to rate it

Looks good and like it will be really helpful for when I actually make my build. Also, I like how you bolded the important text and used pictures. It gets pretty irritating without pictures as you're not usually sure of exactly what is going on.

Oh wow, I completely missed that answer until you selected it as the best solution. So I guess I'll be using the 1866 version of the ram. Honestly, I completely scrolled over it because of how fast you guys responded which was awesome by the way. Thanks!

Lol of course there is no Ares ram at 1866 CL8 (there's only 1866 CL9), but I think I'm fine with the Ripjaws heat spreader with the Hyper 212 Evo for clearance, although the low profile would've been a nice advantage for future upgrades.
