Hi guys, not sure if this is in the correct place, sorry if it isn't....

Firstly, apologies for my lack of knowledge on this subject, I study IT & Business (my area of expertise is Business) but one of my units is Computer Networks.

Basically I'm doing an assignment at college which is looking at Internet Service Providers, I'm wondering is there a way to calculate the amount of data that an individual needs through some form of formula? i.e. the customer can use a formula to calculate what they require so that they don't buy a package that offers 5 times more than what they actually need.

I've looked at a number of different calculators that can be found online but they have tended to be quite inconsistent and my search for a formula has been quite unsuccessful, any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

High end business connections tend to use 9th percentile burstable billing. It gives you a bit of flexibility when you're unsure what your usage may be or if your usage changes from month to month.

Depending on what kind of business, you just need to find out how they operate and estimate how much bandwidth each function of the business needs and what they tend to use it.

Not really.

What applications does the user have installed? Each may phone home and update as needed. All different.
How do they use it?

For instance, from my main PC as of today, April 29: (for the month of April)
This Month Download: 60.30 GB Upload: 18.02 GB

From my wife's PC, the numbers would be far, far different.

You can't really predict beforehand. You can monitor, and adjust later.
