Currently i am running an hp 6230y
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01859871&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en
I have changed out the case and power supply to the haf 912 and an xfx 550w watt power supply. I have also added a gtx 760 from a seller locally.
He had this card installed in an hp p7 1423w
and was wondering If I wanted to buy this system with a better power supply. I plan to change out processor and motherboard and harddrive into the haf 912.
What do you think Is a fair price for this computer and is it a worthy cpu upgrade.

the i5-2320 is a huge upgrade from the x4 810. the xfx 550w you have is a very nice power supply so i dont know why you would need to change it out of your system. basically all you need is the motherboard and the i5. if you want to add the hard drive from it you can too. what is the power supply that is in his system? a fair price, to be honest i wouldn't pay too much for it as you can get a haswell based quad 3.0ghz plus a b85 motherboard for about.....
PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

CPU: Intel Core i5-4440 3.1GHz Quad-Core Processor ($179.98 @ SuperBiiz)
Motherboard: ASRock B85 Pro4 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($69.99 @ Amazon)
Total: $249.97
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)

unless its a really nice hard drive you can get 1tb drives between $55-60 all day.

but again knowing what model power supply he has would help.... but with a system based off of an i5+gtx760.... that xfx 550w is a super solid power supply that most are going to say is unnecessary to change out unless his is a fully modular psu of high quality.

I already have the x4 810 with the xfx 550w and haf and the gtx 760. I got the 760 for 160 from him.
He wants 300 for the system with a 750 watt power supply installed from corsair, but i can bargain to 250. i have an uncle next to microcenter who can get me an i5 4570 and a decent motherboard for 250.
IF I can sell the 750 psu to my friend for 50 that would only be 200. Then I can sell my x4 810 with motherboard and ram and hdd for a decent price since it has a legit windows 7 copy. i think the performance is fine for gaming with a 760 but I dont want to overpay.

well if your math works out, your kinda in a predicament... again without knowing what model the corsair 750w is, its hard to tell.

fact of the matter is your xfx 550w is a solid quality unit that can more than power your rig. as far as the corsir unit, if its just a basic bronze rated corsair, skip it.... if its a gold rated corsair 750w, then its a modular design(cable management is better) and its likely a professional series or an rm series. if it is then you should think about really using it, even if you dont need that extra power or the modular cable design. knowing how old it is and how much wear and tear it has had on it may help too since your xfx psu may be "aged" much less.

the haswell i5-4570 is definitely going to be about 15% faster than the sandy bridge i5-2320, i personally think you should go with the i5-4570 route unless the corsair power supply is of high quality, professional or rm series, and you really need the extra hard drive.

Well I would be paying 250 instead of 200 for a 15 performance boost with a slightly better motherboard.
this is a 20 percent price difference. If i can sell the corsair cx 750m for 50 to a friend
Then I will have a 1 tb hard drive, 8gb of ram, and a new cd drive, and a windows 8 license for the same price included.
I do not need these parts but they are nice.
BTW the power supply is modular but bronze rated.

well that definitely sweetens the deal with more ram, especially if your running less right now, and the 1tb drive, plus windows 8 is nice too especially since it is slightly faster and will likely take better advantage of dx12 api whenever its released.

definitely check on that corsair psu though, professional or rm, keep it if it makes you feel better, if not sell it to your friend.

I dont need the parts but i can sell my ram for around 40-50 and my cpu and motherboard for around 80 and my 750gb slower hdd with win 7 for around 30 so that comes out to around 150. That will leave me with 50 less if possible, but that if fine.
Also the power is the cx 750 m which is modular but bronze rated and has been used for around less than a year.
My xfx 550w is about 2 months old.
