Hi, I recently installed my new ASUS Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 and i moved my CPU over so i got rid of the old paste the standard one from AMD and applied my new paste (Arctic MX-4) which i spread evenly across the surface on the CPU and it wasnt too thick but ive noticed that its idle temps are the same as what it was while gaming with the old paste (40c+) the old paste used to idle at about 24c. The new paste while gaming has it running at 55-65c which isnt ridiculously high but im just confused on why its running hotter

You could have a buble of air in the paste, or even uneven spread of paste. (usually i use arctic silver 5, and it does great. the paste doesnt matter as much as the way you apply it though. i usually put a BB sized blot in the middle and squash the cooler on top. (best coverage))
