Hey everyone,

I'm building a micro atx build with the aforementioned 4770 (non-k) and Powercolor R9 290. Now I had my choices narrowed down to the Asus h87m-e, but after reading this review,

http://www.legitreviews.com/powercolor-pcs-axr9-290x-video-card-review_138422

it says that the backplate on the 290 gives it clearance problems with motherboards that have the memory slots placed close to the PCI slot (it will not fit if the PCI and memory slots are right up against each other), which seems to be most of the boards out there. And looking at the pictures of the Asus board, it definitely looks like they are right next to each other.

So after looking at all the boards available to me (I'm in South Korea so not everything is available here or are crazy expensive), it looks like the Gigabyte h87m-hd3 is the only one with clearance for the gpu and ram, but from what I read it seems like an inferior board. I'm even willing to go z87m if possible, but would like to keep my budget to less than $130. I will not be needing crossfire/sli, but just want a solid board that will be able to handle the 290 and 4770 and that has some clearance between the pci x16 3.0 slot and the memory slots.

Sorry for the long post, thanks for any help in advance!

you should go with with the gigabyte one because it has enough clearance for your gpu and h87 is moderately good at this condition as in south korea the prices are high due to the shipping charges. But i think you should go with a z87 board and 4770k and overclock it but i know that will bit little pricey but you get what you pay for

Dlee,

I was in the same boat as you but I ended up going for i5 4670k 3.8ghz and the Asus z87-pro along with the Msi R9 290X ... reason for going for that specific i5 as there is not much difference in performance compared to the 4770k have a look here - http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i7-4770K-vs-Intel-Core-i5-4670K I saved about 60-70 £ on the processor and put it towards something that i needed more. I read that the 4770k is meant more for engineering roles such as modeling and etc i believe? I might be wrong! But to you're question i second going for the z87 series motherboard tbh
