I have an old Compaq NC8430 laptop. It previously had Windows 2000 on it and it connected to my wireless router with no issues.

I formatted it and installed Windows XP on it and now it doesn't seem to be able to even show me that it has a wireless card in it. When I go to Network Connections it just shows the 1394 Connection which is the wired one, but I know it has wireless capability as well.

How can I get it to show up so I can connect to the Internet? I have no installation CDs or anything as this laptop is quite old. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

this is a link to hps's website it sounds like you dont have a driver installed for the wifi card on your model its either the broadcom or the intel install both one of them will install the other one wont. but that should fix your issue it just sounds like your missing your wifi driver

Not sure if it's as easy as just watching and following this video:

However, the point is you should be able to enable wireless from your network options menu. I included the video for you to at least reference for visuals (I am not the creator of that vid, just linking you to it). Also, some older laptops have a simple wireless button that sometimes gets pressed or turned off by accident so make sure that isn't he case by checking all lights (eg should be blue instead of say orange, or green instead of yellow etc.) Hope this helps!

Thanks all for the help. Definitely going to try to put the drivers on it from this computer. I appreciate all the responses.

And my mistake on the 1394 connection. Looks like I learned something!
