I have an MSI GT70 laptop with windows 8.1, all the updates I can find have been installed. When I connect my USB 3.0 drive into a USB 3.0 slot, It disconnects and reconnects constantly, even when external power is hooked up as well. However, installing that same drive into the USB 2.0 port on the same laptop makes it work flawlessly. It works perfectly on my other computer with windows 7 on USB 3.0 as well... I have tried the registry hack and every other fix I have heard of with no joy.

The only other thing I have to test with at the moment is my mouse receiver, that works fine. What I can say is I have 3 3.0 slots and 2 2.0, the drive does the same thing in all the 3.0 slots and works in both 2.0 ones

I have the same problem. USB 3.0 (I have a MSI GT60 3k.) It's not a driver issue. It has to be hardware. Mine is a msata SSD in a small enclosure. It does it constantly in either of the 3x USB 3. But after a week, it does it in 2 different USB 3.0 hubs plugged into the GT60 - so I am thinking the enclosure is not 100% right (GT60 was to sensitive from the beginning), and now my hub won't really like it (though it might work for 30 minutes before it starts connecting/disconnecting.)

I have this exact same problem. Bought an Asus K200MA running Win 8.1 64-bit. When I plug in my iPad, it connects, disconnects and connects rapidly back and forth. I thought it was the cable so I switched it out... no luck. I plugged my wireless mouse in to the same USB port and it does the same thing. If I use one of the USB 2.0 ports, all works fine for both devices.

I have a 3 day old GE70 2qe that I recently reinstalled windows on because of some other problems.
Now my external hard disk keeps disconnecting and reconnecting rapidly, even though the drive works perfectly fine with all the other computers in the house. This is very worrying for a laptop that I spent an arm and a leg on...

Thanks! This has been bugging me with my WD Elements drive for a while now - just used the exe on the support page and hopefully it fixes it!
