Hi,

I am looking for a new graphicscards for my pc because the current one is to slow to work with premiere pro CS6 and After Effects cs6. I am currently on a budget because I just invested in a new 4k camera, budget is around 500-600 euro's.

Specs of my computer:

Cooler Master Real Power M 620 Watt, 24 Pins, Modulaire Kabels
Cooler Master Centurion 5 Zwart, Zilver, Geen Voeding
Samsung Spinpoint F3 1 TB, 7200 Rpm, 32 MB, S-ATA II/300
GeIL Value Dual Channel 4 GB, PC3-10666, 1333 MHz, 7, Non-ECC, Kit Of 4
AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition 3.20 GHz, 4x 512Kb, Boxed,
GigaByte GA-770TA-UD3 1 € 73,95 € 73,95
Samsung SH-S223C/BEBE S-ATA, Bulk, Zwart
XFX Radeon HD 5830 (AVP2) 1024 MB

Does it make sense to buy a faster grapichs card and expect the computer to handle 4k video's? Or do I also need a new processor / SSD memory? And what graphics card would you recommend for 4k editing?

I am located in the Netherlands and my budget is, as stated, around 500-600 euro's

Thanks!

GTX 780 or R9 290 and up. It still won't be a very good experience though at 4K. The rest of your PC is well under what you really need like the RAM... You need at least 16GB of RAM but really I'd recommend 32GB. The CPU isn't good for 4K video editing either. I'd recommend at least a Core i7 4770.

Thanks for the quick respone RickMa! Do you know if the CS6 mercury engine runs with AMD's R9 290? And I think Davinci Resolve only works with cuda, so the GTX 780 would be a better option, right? And what are your thoughts on the new GTX 780 with 6gb instead of 3gb, will this make a big difference? thanks again!

Depends what you are going to use After Effects for. If its S.P work only, go 780. If its D.P and S.P, the GTX 580 3 GB or the GTX Titan (normal edition).

Do not go for any other card if you need d.p.

And no card can handle 4k real time in after effects :)

Really depends on what your up to, an nvidia GTX 780 will excel in some places because of its extra cores whereas if you go with an R9 290X, it will excel elsewhere because of the larger on-board memory and faster memory bus. I do abit of what you have explained and also gaming and i find the R9 290X is a great solution as a slightly cheaper yet powerful card (maybe more than 780?). But its not just the card that's required. You definitely need more ram, 16GB would be enough and at least an Intel i7 4770K unlocked processor, yet with that you may need a beefier power supply and/or new motherboard.
Hope this helped :)

You seem to have next to no idea how After Effects work. After Effects code is heavily optimized for Nvidia, recommending him an AMD card is sheer folly. After effects utilizes both Single Precision and Double Precision work. All the cards after Nvidia 5xx series are D.P locked with the exception of the titans.

Quite frankly he did state he was on a tight budget and not everyone in this world has pockets so deep they can splash money at a $1000 card when there's every other upgrade he could buy for that price.

I know he was on a tight budget, which is why i recommended him a 580 :) i myself cannot afford a titan (cant even think about a quadro!) but need to get my work done. So a 580 it is.

Is a 580 capable?

You have a very good case but clearly the r9 290x vaporx wont fit(well, it will be very tight if you do manage to fit it) so i wouldn't recommend that plus if you are using After Effects then you must go for an Nvidia card though you can go for the r9 290x normal edition of sapphire. it has got enough power to suffice anything plus it also performs like a monster in gaming. And since your budget is around 500-600 euros you better go for a r9 290x cause, honestly, its the best deal you can get.
But mind you, your processor may bottleneck the GPU

Get the 8GB R9 290 card, Davinci Resolve 11 has been rewritten for OpenCL and this card outperforms the Titan Black. I bought both and returned the Titan.
You can edit and colour correct in resolve, in realtime using the R9 card, it is the best investment of your money at this stage.

If stuck on a tighter budget, get the Nvidia GTX580 3GB card, or a pair of them if you can find them cheap. They outperform the 6 series and most of the 7 series cards.

But really you want as much Vram as possible, so in order of performance, an 8GB R9 card (from overclockers.uk) or a 6GB Nvidia card, or a 4GB R9 290 card, or a 3GB GTX580.
