Hy guyz,
I want to purchase a pc for my graphic designing needs, i will extensively use my pc for AutoCAD 3D modeling, Studio Max 3D modeling and rendering.
I have two choice in my minds.
A shopkeeper at my near market sell this Workstation pc, (I dnt know the complete specs)
Processor: Xeon Quad Core, 2 physical processors with 12MB cache each, dnt knw Ghz :(
Mobo: dnt knw :(
Ram: 4gb DDR2
Gpu: Quadro Fx 4600
PSU: 650W
Above is HP pre-built workstation, I think XW 6600 model

And my 2nd choice is

Processor: i7 2600
Mobo: Asus P8H61, M LE R2.0
Ram: 4gb DDR3 @ 1600mhz
PSU: 500W, of any good brand
GPU: HD 7750 or 7770

As I told you guyz before i want to use this pc extensively for graphics, 3D modeling and rendering, and some light gaming too :)
so help me to choose the best one between these two, as they are in my budget range.

Waiting . . .

Solution
The 2nd choice by miles. The i7 is way better.

The HP workstation sounds like its about 5 years old.

Do you have a budget? You might be able to build something new which will be good.

If you're primary goal is AutoCAD. The architects and engineers where I do desktop support have all gone with the giant xeon processor based workstations. HP z820. Sounds similar to what your describing, but bigger and probably a lot more expensive. They love them. What you're describing though looks to be outdated.

Thanks for your quick response.
I dont have much budget and these two are my budget range, maybe later i will upgrade to i7 3770, but right now i will go to i7 2600,

And would you plz explain how can a i7 2600 ( 4 cores, 8 threads and 8mb cache) faster than 02 physical Xeon Quad cores ( 4+4=8 cores, 12 + 12 = 24mb cache)

Because the Xeons in the HP system are old and still using DDR2 Ram.

The i7 2600 is built on the Sandybridge architecture, which was a big performance leap for Intel. The single threaded performance will be far better, and the multithreaded performance will be similar.

Dont get me wrong, if you compare the same architecture, then obviously dual xeons will be better. If they were Sandybridge-E Xeons, then I would say go for it, but they arent.
