Hi everyone !
I decided to build a decent gaming pc for 1100€ with monitor , keyboard and mouse included , and I'd like to overclock . But here's the problem :
I don't know which cooler to choose . The h100i or the noctua nh-d14 ? I have a budget of 100€ max for the cooler .
So what is your opinion ?
Here's my build :
CPU:AMD FX-8320
MOBO:Asus M5A97 R2.0
RAM : Kinston Beast 8GB DDR3 1600Mhz
GPU : MSI 760 Twin Frozr
Storage : 1TB Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM
Case: Corsair 550D
PSU : Corsair CX600M

More about : h100i noctua d14

I personally would always select air over liquid. In your build I would go with a better PSU than the Corsair CX which is a budget unit.

Do you have a window in your case and care about asthetics? Then get the H100i (or better yet the H105), if you dont want just want good quiet cooling performance then get the Noctua D-15.

Hi andrrei65
both are good coolers , if choosing the nhd14 , be sure your case will support this cooler it is 160MM high also this is a twin tower heatsink
so be aware of your ram height as this may hit your Kingston Beast heatsinks
if choosing the h100i be sure you have at least 55mm minimum between the top of your case and the top of the motherboard ( the rad is 27mm thick , say 30mm and the fans are 25mm thick ( 55MM ) plus allow room unless you get creative for your 12v eps cable

Was going to type as well your motherboard is an OK OC board meaning it will do mild to moderate OC fine but you are selecting high end coolers for max OC! CM hyper 212 EVO will handle all the overclock you get on that board. So step up to a better board or get cheaper cooler.

I do have a window in my case and care a little bit about asthetics , and the d-15 isn't available in Belgium

I guess the h100i is the bang for my buck then ?
I'm gonna go with a better cooler , too .

They are both great, but if you decide to go with the H100i over the NH-D14, you'll want to get those Noctua F-12 fans on your radiator. Just as effective but WAY QUIETER! The stock fans on the H100i are ridiculously loud, especially when you turn it on. The bootup is like a jet engine. Keeping that in mind, the H100i will be considerably more expensive because of the fan swap.

Another consideration, especially if you have a case window, is how the thing will look. Many people don't like the look of bulky heatsinks, which makes the H100i very appealing. If your case is closed, though, there is little performance or aesthetic reason to deviate from the NH-D14. It works really well and is super quiet.

I am one of those who went with the H100i over the NH-D14 just because I thought the H100i was a little cooler (not in terms of temperature, just a cooler thing to own). I also like how clean it looks through my case window. The H100i works just as well as you'd expect, and it cools my 3930k @ 4.6 Ghz perfectly well. For your CPU, you'll be fine either way. Just pick which appeals to you more. Don't get caught up in a degree here or there. These are both high-end coolers and will work perfectly well on a high-end system.

Then I would go for the H105 or H100i, they look so much better than the Noctua. Performance between them will be practically nothing.

But is there any risk of choosing to watercool over air cooling the cpu ?

Then , what mobo would you suggest me ?
I also don't care if the cooler is loud or not .

The simple answer when it comes to risks of water cooling is that you shouldn't really consider them if you buy an all-in-one so long as you make sure there's no leaks before installing the unit. Just shake it around a little. If it stays dry, you're good, and it will almost certainly stay dry.

As far as which water cooler to buy, just get the largest radiator you can fit. Cooling comes down to a lot of things, but the most significant factor is surface area for heat dissipation. I wish I would have checked this myself. It turned out that I could have fit the H110, but I got caught up in the Corsair link software, which doesn't even work with Windows 8.1 anyway. Oh well. The H100i is a good cooler. It just would have been better to get the H110 because it has a bigger radiator that offers more surface area. The cooling capability increases in direct proportion to the radiator size, all else being equal (i.e. big radiators with fans cool better than small radiators with fans).

Do you have screws on your case for 120mm or 140mm fans? If 140mm, you can get the H110.

So for the mobo , will the AsRock 990FX Extreme3 be enough for high OC ?

Thats why I recommend the H105, thicker rad and similar performance to the H110 but having the 120/240mm compatibility.

I think I can't fit a h110 in my 550D , unfortunatly ...

Hmm, maybe the same goes for me, then. I thought I could fir the H110 in my 350D because the top has 2x140mm fan mounts on top, but the H110 doesn't list our cases as compatible. I wonder why?

Then I'm gonna go with the h100i because the h105 is 30€ more and I don't think it's worth it , personally .
Thanks for your help everyone !
EDIT : I changed the 8320 for a 6300 and got a corsair 650D to fit in a h110 :D

I too believe that noctua NH-D14 is an overkill for your system since it's designed for medium to high OC... If you are going to buy something that is overkill for your system it should be something futureproof that you can also take advantage of now like a more expensive motherboard or maybe a better CPU, maybe even a better PSU if you intend to SLI in the future. However I would recommend to buy a CM hyper 212 EVO and use the extra money to buy an SSD for your windows.

Nice!

I started writing "Yeah, the H100i looks nicer anyway and has more versitile tubing."

But then I saw your edit. Nicely done!

I think the H110's function will outweigh minor aesthetic things. You'll be happy with your new rig. Congrats!

One more question : Is 600w enough for this build ?

Hahah :D
Even with the h100i I would have been happy with my rig .
My pc is a hp pavilion g7 1320eb notebook , and I barely can play games .

It worse than the Asus board and your CPU is not on the support list.
Gigabyte GA 970A UD3P is a good board and most 990FX or X boards.

I sacrificed some razer peripherals to get a N630GT from msi
So here's the build ...
CPU : AMD FX-6300 @ 4.2GHz
CPU Cooler : Corsair H110
Motherboard : Asus M5A97 R2.0
Ram : Kingston HyperX Beast DDR3 1600MHz 8GB
GPU : MSI N630GT
Case : Corsair 650D
Storage : Seagate Barry 1TB
Peripherals : Logitech M90 Mouse and Logitech K310
Monitor : Asus VX238H

Nah .. Just joking I got a MSI GeForce GTX 770 TwinFrozr XDD

Total : ~€1050
