GPU Comparisons and Opinions

Back again guys! I have a GPU comparison task to ask of the community. I had issues with my first card a XFX Radeon 7950 DD. Went through all the troubleshooting but ended up having to send it to the company to have them tell me the same thing. That it was unusable from the amazon seller I got it from. So I they sent me a replacement one. This is a XFX R9 280X. From what I gather its a remap of a 7970 with better air flow to keep the card cooler. It has 3GB DDR5 and is also a DD. Did I get a better or worse card?

Would be a better card. The 280 is the 7950, while you have a 280X which as you pointed out is the 7970. Not sure why you are asking if you know this already. What exactly are you worried/concerned about?

maybe 2 concerns 1 which you just stated its a better card and 2 this is the biggie. since they are both xfx/amd will I be able to crossfire this card with an radeon hd 7950

I believe so. AMD is really forgiving with CF setups and they should have the same GPU inside of them. I know of no reason why you can't.

throw a party dude, the 280x is a good step up from the 7950. we're speaking about 100€ step up, atleast where i'm from.

Thats awesome! I just need to get another motherboard and maybe bigger power supply! _Vass a party?! Maybe if I dont run out of money for this rebuild once I fine a motherboard

do you still have a 7950? it's nice to cf sure, but you might run into framerate problems plus the 7950 bottlenecks the 280x obv. maybe use the partymoney to buy another 280x after you sold the 7950?

Really now? I know xfire is better with the 2 same cards but will it really do it like that?

and yes I got another 7950 before I sent off the one that didnt work for me to the company and they sent me the r9 280x

it's just an option. 7950 and 280x combo will probably run great to0

No doubt 2 is better than one. I have a 750 ultra for my power supply would you suggest a larger wattage to run both the cards?

It's an Ultra LSP750 power supply semi.

eh, it's your call. it should work with a little bit of headroom left.. on paper. i don't know in reality i don't have that exact system. seeing that your psu is not made by one of the top brands i'd advise against it. it's difficult because it might go horribly wrong once you try it.
