I know both arent good for overclocking. Is it worth saving the $20 and getting the 980 if i'm just going to do simple gaming with a FX6300, 8gb 1600 ram and a r9 270. The most i'd do is use the motherboards turbo core feature which both i believe have. I'm not planning on getting another GPU nor using all those USB ports.

Thanks in advance

Hi and welcome to the forums!

it's worth spending the extra and getting the ASRock 970 PRO3 R2.0, and as you mentioned, do not attempt to do some type of unreasonable overclock, you may find yourself in a bit of trouble. You'll find that the 970 chipset board is the better option
