Hi, I asked here on the forum about a suitable replacement for my old heatsink fan, and after sending my specs was recommended the Arctic cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev 2.

I found it didn't work so I tried my old fan again, which worked.

Is there anything I'm doing wrong or should know?
It was said to be compatible with my 775 socket and I followed the guides with applying/removing thermal paste etc.

Help appreciated.

Thanks.

Yes, The fan is plugged in correctly into the CPU_FAN header. I didn't think I could plug it in anywhere else the only other header I see are the SYS_FAN and PWR_FAN. Is it safe to plug them in there?
I tried my old fan to test in CPU_FAN header and everything worked ok.

I will try plugging it in the other 2 slots if that is safe?

Other than that could it just be a faulty new fan, or something I'm missing?

Thanks.

Yeah, the fan itself is just powered by a positive and negative, the 3rd pin is for RPM reading, and the 4th is PWM control. You can plug any fan into any header on the motherboard, and it'll be perfectly safe. I would keep the stock cooler on the CPU while trying this, otherwise the motherboard will yell at you though lol

If that doesn't power it, I would get in touch with the seller about getting a replacement :(

Just read on some other forums that the heat sink fan should only be plugged into the CPU_FAN slot or it can be a disaster. Is this correct? Sorry, just being cautious, don't want to make any mistakes.

They also said the PWR_FAN is just for monitoring speeds.
Can you or anyone else confirm this please?

Thanks.

Yeah, I'm not saying to leave it plugged in there, I just wanted to see if the fan even powers on. That's why I said to leave to stock cooler on. The motherboard will throw a for if nothing is plugged into the CPU fan header when turned on.

Hi. Sorry it's me being dumb. I tried what you said, and yeah the new fan works in the PWR_FAN header.

Any ideas why it won't work in the CPU_FAN header? The old one works in it ok.

Thanks.

It may be the motherboard is starting the CPU fan at too low of a voltage for the Arctic Freezer 7. Try hooking up the Arctic cooler, (don't worry about changing the thermal compound yet, what's left on there is fine for this test, don't want you to run out lol) then spinning the fan with your finger, and see if it tries to keep going. When you turn the computer on, get into the BIOS and check what speed the CPU fan is set to. You should be able to adjust the minimum speed up from there.
