i bought the board yesterday and a new hdd.. My processor and ram are old.. My ram and cpu came from my previous mobo, which was faulty.. Testing the cpu on a friends mobo is not an option for me. I tried running the mobo outside the case with cpu and hsf only, but still the same result. There is no led or speakers in my mobo. Can i start the mobo without the cpu and hsf???

Yes you can it wont' hurt it. But it wont' accomplish anything either as it won't do anything without the CPU. My motherboard did not have a built in speaker and I had to buy a little speaker that plugs into a speaker header on my motherboard to troubleshoot a problem I had. Something like this: http://www.frys.com/product/6488702?

Have you tried booting it with just 1 stick of ram to see if one of the sticks is now faulty?

i tried my frnds ram but still same.. I forgot to told u that both my cpu and psu stops after 5 secs and not only the cpu fan.. If i start the mobo without cpu and hsf, will the psu fan still run?

i new thing i noticed that if i try to start without cpu and hsf then after 5 secs it doesnt stop, it runs normally. But as i dont have a cpu so the is no display. So could this mean that my cpu is dead?

It's hard to say. A motherboard won't do much without a CPU, so even a bad motherboard may not make you aware of a problem if there is no CPU installed.

If you have handled the CPU with care and haven't bent any of the pins since it was installed in your last motherbaord, my bet is still on the motherboard being the issue because they are so much more likely to be bad than a CPU.
