Hello everyone. I'm looking for a portable workstation/game/ripping/entertainment machine (laptop). The machine will be primary used for work with numerous VM images running, JAVA IDE, SQL utilities, websphere, oracle to name a few . For play it will be a htpc running plex and xbmc, ripping dvd , transcoding for streaming boxes then some gaming .
I would love to build my own laptop but I haven't found a good site that appears reputable to me that I can order parts from in order to build my laptop. I would love a pcpartpicker.com option that would do laptops?
I was contemplating a digitalstorm laptop but I'm a little weary of their reputation as I have never done business with them and some of the reviews I have seen here and other sites. In addition there website home page bottom left says they have a A+ BBB Rating. However going to the BBB website they have no rating due to "This business has no rating because it is in the process of responding to complaint(s) previously closed as unresolved. " and they have 30 complaints.
So digitalstorm,Cyberpower are out for me due to the reviews and complaints about them.
Laptop I'm looking for:
Screen: 14" - 17" led backlit 1920x1080 with or without matte (prefer matte). I plan to use it as a workstation primarily at my house so I will have access to bigger 24+ screens. The matte will be nice when working outside.
TouchScreen: Yes please.
CPU: Intel Core i7 4th generation
Mem: 16GB DDR3 1600MHz would consider less as long as its upgradable to 16 or 24 GB down the road.
HD: 500gb 7200RPM (SATA 3Gb/s) at minimum with option to upgrade to SSD in the future
Network: Wireless dual band AC
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 4GB or comparable. I'm don't do any gaming now on pc but would like the option if possible. I also plan to do transcoding, ripping, and streaming HD content from this pc as a HTPC. Would prefer the card to be upgradable in the future but not hard set on it if its decent enough.
questions:
1. Is their a reputable builder that can provide something similar to listed configuration above for around $1,600?
2. Is their a reputable website or place that you can order the parts from to build your own laptop from screen ,case, and components (MB,CPU,GPU,MEM,etc)? And have you used them before?
3. Would the 860M let you play Crysis in Ultramode?
thanks in advance for your comments, remarks, and criticism.
