I was wondering whether or not this idea of mine would work.

I am looking at getting the Corsair H80i cooler for my new computer, but the h100i is on sale and they are the exact same price.

Now this is the problem, I want to mount the cooler on the top, but my case I a looking at (NZXT Phantom 630) has room for 2x200mm fans on top, I want them to stay. However, my initial impression was that I would have to replace the 200mm fans with 120mm fans.

I was thinking of installing the cpu cooler at the top, then having the fans elevated slight with a washer to make sure there would be no interference with the fan blades. Does anyone know if this type of set up would allow this to still work, or would this just fail?

Or if anyone has any better suggestions please let me know what your ideas are so I can consider them.

i prefer the heavy duty 120mm coolers... remove the top-rear exhaust fan, and mount the rad with push/pull setup as INTAKE here.

so it's pulling fresh air into the rad from behind the case, and the hot air goes right out the top of the case then.
I got better temps with my cooler master 120xl like this than i did with a top mount h100 (granted the h100i is better to begin wtih)... mostly b/c my two GPUs make the case very warm, so the h100 was using hot case air to try to cool.

depends on your setup i guess. do you have two high end GPUs that are overclocked and hot? :)

I am going with 1 GPU for now and will probably get a second later, as for overclocking, I might do some of that as well in the future to try and boost performance, but not until I get more familiar with the system and overclocking, also, while i like your idea, I might want to get a dust filter for that area then, which would increase the price a little.
