Hello guys, i think my video card is not working well. First of all i have a Gigabyte nVidia GeForce GTX550 Ti, 1024MB, GDDR5, 192bit and the problem is that I cannot play like Battlefield 4 in good conditions, even I can't play on low like max: 20 fps . Does my cpu bottleneck my gpu ? I have an AMD athlon II x3 445 3,11 GHz . I came with this idea that my gpu is not working properly good because i google about this problem and I have seen people playing this game with this video card and a similar(maybe) cpu on ultra and other new games ( ghost or metro last light, etc - on ultra) . These are my other specs:
monitor 1680 x 1050 59Hz
the pc is made on 32 bit - ( can be a problem here)
4 GB ram
windows 7 home premium
400 gbs of memory

Thanks !

Solution
The old Athlon triple core should not bottle neck the 550 Ti. Especially at 1680x1050. Do you have a lot of other stuff running when Win7 starts? Check your tray for stuff you can disable. Check your systemconfig/startup for how many boxes are checked. All that stuff steals clock cycles and resources.
Next run CCleaner and do the clean and registry portions both. https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner

But that combination as a whole is not a modern gamer for modern games. Don't expect too much from it with games like BF4. Especially if you are on a busy server with 64 players. The CPU may not be able to keep up. (not the same as bottlenecking the GPU).

Your CPU could be bottlenecking your card. Download and install MSI afterburner and see if the gpu usage is reaching its max or howering around 20%. If its around 20%, then you do have a CPU bottleneck. You can only play the game in low-medium settings even if it is not a bottleneck.

thanks for the answer! I tried the afterburner and it's says that may gpu usage it's 47%. Is that a problem or having a big usage it's good, or having a low usage. Thanks again for the answer ! oh and does my psu affects my gpu with his volltage ? I think it's around 400-500W.

Oh yes completely forgot about the psu. That card needs a 450 watts psu. However 500w is recommended. The stock psu doesnt do any good. Only the branded PSUs have 12v rails that connect to the gpu. Whats the brand of the psu that you have? Is it greater than 450w ? What fps do u get on other games ? Is the gpu running fine with other games ?

Wait, what? Even Nvidia themselves only recommend a 400W PSU for that card. http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-550ti/specifications
It's only a 116W card. It may occasionally peak above that. So, granted, bigger is better.

"Only the branded PSUs have 12v rails that connect to the gpu"
Huh? All PSUs connect to the gfx card via the PCIe x16 slot. 75W of power worth. But yes, the card does require a 6 pin aux power connector. Obviously the OP has that or he wouldn't be able to even use the card.

Ok.. I entered on the msconfig, and the only checked box at startup was only one the antivirus but on the other side at the service the are like 100 checked boxes or even more Thanks again for your time answering my previous question.

Guys so i tried again playing bf4 everything at low, even the resolution was the lowest. So i used the vertical sync and when i was away from the combat i had like almost 90 fps and when i'am with other guys around me etc bam 10fps-15. I think that my cpu can't handle the game and a little the gpu cause i had this cpu from 2009 around that year when black ops 1 was realeased. And when my pc was finished my psu burned when i tryed to play like Medal of honor 2010 and a changed the psu with a better one.And from this problem i think it affected even the cpu or the motherboard but not the gpu cause i changed in the december of 2013. And when i'm playing with MSI on the bf4 my usage is blocked at 66 sometimes increased at 80 when i was watching a video on youtube. And... about my fps on other games : Can't even play Last Light bam 1 fps is big, Ghost can't cause of the 32bit and bf3 my recommeded settings are on high/ultra and the first five minutes of playing is awesome 60 fps and than bam only 10 and i play wven bf3 on low or very low . Shall i change my old cpu with an I7 or another one, cause from system requirtments of the gpu says like I7 needed or an equal of it. Thanks again guys for helping me with my problem.

The Services tab should be left alone for now. I'm only talking the Start Up tab. But if you don't have many boxes checked in the Start Up tab, then it probably isn't an issue.

Yeah, it's beginning to sound like the Athlon triple core can't keep up with difficult maps and lots of players. Do you have this same issue when playing single player?

Btw, changing to a i7 processor will require a motherboard change as well. Are you up for that kind of expense?

WOW! i wasn't thinking about that but i can be able if you say to buy an other motherboard but thinking of this i can change my mind to an I5 or something that can support it. And you are saying about singleplayer ? So.... sometimes it lags when it loads the entire map and having a lot of cpu enemies yes it annoys the cpu. Most of all i'm looking for a cheap-expensive cpu like Intel cause i like it but why you are saying that i should change my motherboard, does the I7 eats a lot ?

The motherboard you have now for your AMD Athlon II X3 is not compatible with Intel processors. You have to decide between Intel or AMD when you want to upgrade. The AMD and Intel motherboards & processors are not compatible with each other.

OK! So you say that i should go for AMD ok, and if I want to buy a good AMD cpu, DO I need to change the motherboard if it can't support a good AMD cpu? I'm gonna see support of the board on the box and the internet.

I didn't say you should go for AMD if you replace your MB and CPU. I just said they were not compatible with each other.
Intel will give you a choice of slightly faster (gaming) processors in the upper end. But AMD usually costs a bit less.
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-cpu-review-overclock,3106-5.html

In either case, the processor and the MB's socket have to match. Modern Intel sockets are the 1155, 1150, 2011.
Modern AMD sockets are the AM3, AM3+, FM2, FM2+.
