Hi everyone. Recently, I bought an ITX case and ITX board to swap all my components into.

I had the Mercury S5 mATX with an MSI Z87M Gaming. I Now have the Mercury S3 with an Asus Maximus VI Impact.

I had to return the first Impact due to failing USB ports. The second one seems great, but I noticed very alarming temperatures as opposed to the MSI Z87M Gaming. (since the motherboard is the only component I have changed) Temps will reach 85-92c within seconds of starting OCCT, Intel Extreme Tuning, Prime95(Small, Large).

My build consists of:
Mercury S3 ITX Case
Asus Maximus VI Impact
Intel Core-i7 4770K
2x4GB G.Skill Ripjaw 1866MHz
Corsair AX760 Plat
Corsair Force GS 360
Corsair H100i w/ Stock Fans
Evga 780 Ti Classified

These high temps are with the bios set to defaults and the cpu at 3.9ghz stock. Everything is untouched. I have tried to troubleshoot the issue and this is what I've done so far:

- I've reseated the H100i multiple times.
- I've tried MX-5, IC-Diamond, and AS5.
- Both 4770K and cooler base are kept completely clean and smooth before applying new TIM
- I apply a little bit less than the size of a pea on the center of the cpu. I've done this for years with no issue.
- I always tighten the CPU cooler in an X pattern.
- I've updated H100i firmware and made sure all connections were working.(onboard usb, sata, cpu fan)
- I've installed the stock Intel cooler and tested temps with Intel's extreme tuning utility (for process of elimination purposes)

At first, I thought it was the H100i going bad on me, but both the bios and Corsair Link software show the pump running at 2200RPM and I can feel it moving in the tubes. This leads me to believe it must be the CPU or the Motherboard. Seeing as how I've used this CPU on multiple motherboards with semi-great temps (4.4GHHz 1.22v high 60c's) I this might be the motherboard.

Is it possible the motherboard is causing my temperatures to exceed 90c at stock settings with both the H100i and Intel stock cooler?

Thanks for any help. I am truly frustrated right now. I seem to always have the worst luck with electronics.

UPDATE 5/1/14: (I think if you right click on the images and choose "view image", it should give you a larger picture to read the information.)

Well even though I got no replies ( :( ) I did find the solution. After scouring the web for anyone having a heat issue related to their motherboard, I could barely find anything. I went ahead and decided to pick up a cheapy Gigabyte Z87 board to see what happened when I installed everything on it.

Once I got everything pulled off my Impact and onto the Gigabyte, I fired it up and sure enough, temps under full load (Small on OCCT) were barely hitting 65c.

My first thought was "**** this is the third Impact that has had issues! **** **** ****!@!@" I needed to plug everything back up into the Impact so I could fit everything back in my case while I started the RMA process with Asus. When I fired it up, I decided to check OCCT once more just so I could get a screen shot of the insane temperatures between each board. To my relief, the Impact was only hitting 70c full load (Small) in OCCT.

What this means is it was purely user error when I was installing the H100i. I'm not sure how I could have screwed it up so badly 3 times trying to reseat it, but something I was doing wasn't working. In any case, I'm extremely happy with everything now!
