GPU fans stop running after PC startup

Hey guys,
I have a Sapphire AMD Radeon R9 270X 4gb and the fans start running for a couple of seconds on startup then suddenly switch off.
I have recently built this new PC although I haven't installed Windows yet (waiting to get paid to purchase it) I'm wondering if this may be the problem or something I have done incorrectly during the build.

Also maybe an off topic question.
As I am new at building, this GPU has 2x 6 pin power connectors for power. I initially just put one 6 pin into the GPU and turned on the PC. The fans were running but no display. I plugged the other in and there was a display.
As there are 2x 6 pin power connector inputs on this GPU, does this mean both have to be plugged in.

Any feedback is appreciated and thanks for taking your time to read :)

Yes, the card has to see +12V at both headers be fore it will work.

The problem with the fans not staying on is problematic though. Take the fan out and look closely at the fan connector on its PCB. Be sure it is plugged in all the way. What motherboard do you have? If it has a 2nd PCIex16 slot, see if it happens in it too. But it sounds like the card is defective or the MB is. Do you have another card to test with?

Hi, thanks for answering. Unfortunately I don't have another GPU to test with. I will try as you said.
I have the MSI 970A-G43 Mobo so I can definitely try the other PCIe. One thing I forgot to mention was that the fans did work and continued to a stay on a few days ago but then this problem arose. I havnt changed anything though
