I built my pc in 2011 and it was mainly to be used for professional 2d/3d animation, rendering, editing, as well as gaming on the side.

I've now want to upgrade this computer. Normally after 4 years or so I sell my old and build a new one. This time i see that most parts havnt changed much. I was really expecting 8cores to be the norm by now. Even thought 12 cores would start showing up. All are around yes, but not affordable for me.

So I was planning on upgrading a few components and wanted the communities advice.

My current build :

Crucial RealSSD C300 CTFDDAC128MAG-1G1 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
$190.00
EVGA 015-P3-1580-AR GeForce GTX 580 (Fermi) 1536MB 384-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video ...
$200.00
-1 x ASUS P8P67 PRO (REV 3.0) LGA 1155 Intel P67 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard with UEFI BIOS
80.00
ASUS VE278Q Black 27" Full HD HDMI LED Backlight LCD Monitor w/Speakers
250.00
Microsoft Windows 7 Professional SP1 64-bit - OEM
140.00
CORSAIR HX Series HX850 850W ATX12V 2.3 / EPS12V 2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active ...
150.00
CORSAIR Hydro Series H60 (CWCH60) High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler
70.00
Intel Core i7-2600K Sandy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 1155 95W Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 3000 ...
340.00
SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 ST1000DM005/HD103SJ 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive
60.00
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Desktop Memory Model F3-14900CL9Q-16GBXL
180.00

I wanted to see how their values now. It seems the parts are still worth something.

So I wanted to swap out the CPU, Ram, and maybe a new GPU. In a perfect world id love to get a new MOBO too since this thing has been a pain in the ass since day one. double/triple booting, bluescreens, slow slow boots. But i might keep it to prevent reinstalling the entire system.

Here are two parts I might buy as upgrades.

CORSAIR Vengeance 32GB (4 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2133 Desktop Memory Model CMZ32GX3M4A2133C10
$359.99
Intel Core i7-3930K Sandy Bridge-E 3.2GHz (3.8GHz Turbo) LGA 2011 130W Desktop Processor BX80619i73930K
$589.99

So if you have any suggestions on some better parts or ones I could eliminate from my build. Please throw it at me. I'm curious. Thanks guys!

Okay I thought I covered my bases, maybe I glazed over the subtle difference of numbers. Good catch! Buying a new Mobo would mean I'd have to reinstall, shudders. But i could work with that.

Yeah tahts what i was thinking, didnt realize the mobo was null. Sucks. I have never been very happy with the Asus mobo i have now. Like I stated in the OP. Its just been subpar at best.

I'd maybe consider going with an MSI.

oh good point. I may know how to build a pc, but ive never been a power user and utlilize the bells and whistles.

i think the gpu would assist with previewing at times. just a consideration really. is 850 more than enough to keep this thing powered?
