hi, i have this gpu
http://www.ebay.com/itm/380454550804?_trksid=p2059210.m...

i didn't use it yet because I have a VGA monitor so I ordered this 24+5 DVI adapter
http://www.ebay.com/itm/200714396562?_trksid=p2059210.m...

I read something like an 18 pin wouldn't cause a quality loss in my case but I ordered the 24 pin anyway but I was sent a 12 + 5 pin adapter. Is it okay to use? I made a case with the seller but I want to get the GPU installed tonight if possible.

Also, stupit windows 8.1 made my optical drive stop working right after I installed it like 5 months ago (others have reported the same problem) and I haven't gotten it fixed because never really needed to. Would it cause a problem just installing the driver from MSI's website instead of using the Cd?
Thanks.

Try the adapter and see if it works. It should if it has the 4 pins surrounding the flat blade. Those are the analog (VGA) signals. It won't hurt anything. It will either work or not.

You don't need a driver for an optical drive. But you can use any driver from your board's web site, yes. It may be preferred, in fact. But for your gfx card, grab the latest one from http://support.amd.com/en-us/download
