Missing Description of Running Processes

Hi Guys,

I have noticed this the last week or so where some of the processes in Task Manager do not show a description, and when I right-click and choose "Open File Location" nothing happens.

If i do the "Open File Location" on a process that has a description the location is displayed as expected.

Here is a screenshot if that helps. Any thoughts?

I had the same thing happen to me but then I clicked "Show processes from all users" and all the descriptions were made visible, along with "Open File Location" functionality. You appear to have clicked that and have it "Show processes from all users" checked so the descriptions should show up.

They appear to be SYSTEM processes which are being protected. Do you have administrative rights on the user account you are using?

I do have admin rights. Sometimes after a reboot/shutdown all the descriptions appear as expected. But a restart does not always resolve the issue. For example i rebooted 3 times yesterday, and the descriptions were missing still.

I think your rights are not getting elevated to admin for you to see all the descriptions. When you open task manager and go to Processes, do you have a button in the bottom left containing a Yellow/Blue admin Shield with "Show all processes from all users"? Or do you just have the check box like in your screenshot?

I have the button with shield pic and when I press it, more descriptions become visible.

Edit:
To test if it is user rights causing it, try this:

1. Click start
2. In 'Search programs and files' type taskmgr
3. Find taskmgr in the list, right click it and select 'Run as Administrator'

Let me know if the missing descriptions show up or not

I have UAC completely disabled and am running enterprise win 7 not sure if that button is a UAC thing or home premium/version thing, but I will attempt to run it as an admin when i return home. Thank you.

I came home and all processes were showing. As far as I know it wasnt restarted today.. makes no sense.

Edit: Confirmed via Event Viewer no reboot today.

EDIT2: Just closed and relaunched task manager. Some aren't showing, and they are not all SYSTEM processes, some are running under my user account.

EDIT3: It only happens when i run task manager from my zbar task bar! Welp problem solved. Thanks guys.
